Yesterday I was ready to leave the bookstore and the seat wouldn't unlock. The latch by the key opened and the seat would raise a couple of inches but that wouldn't let my helmet escape of course. I wiggled it back and forth a little but no joy. I latched it back down and tried again but no joy. I gave up and rode home wearing my cap instead of my helmet, about 4 or 5 miles. Somewhere on the way I hit the magic bump and when I got home it opened fine. I guess I'll take it to the dealer as I presume that would be a warranty issue. I thought I'd ask for input here first though. So any and all advice on this will be appreciated. Thanks.

| If that would be the front seat latch which wouldn't release, and it's still under warranty, then, yes, have the dealer check it out.
You really don't want to be faced with the front latch problem I recently had, which required me to hacksaw thru the front latch loop because the spring connecting the two latch 'fingers' popped off. There was no way that latch was going to be released under that circumstance. The rear latch released without a problem and I ended up using a tapered 2X4 mid way under the seat to allow a hacksaw to reach the latch loop.
Once the spring was replaced on the latch fingers the latch operated normally, but that latch loop seems go be only available as part of the entire seat.

Yes, well I presume it was the front latch not releasing anyway. It's a new 2012 that I bought a few weeks ago so it's under warranty. I will check with the dealer about a time to take it in as I'll have to wait on it.

Sometimes you need to push down on the center of the seat, usually the backrest, to 'un-latch' the latch and then the seat opens. This usually happens if you closed the seat when the trunk is full or the helmet may be too tight against the seat when you close the seat. But try pushing down on the center of the seat when you turn the key.

This happened to me a few months ago. My Helmet was under the seat and i couldn't open it to get to it. Fortunately i was at a local dealer who knew me, and they lent me a helmet to get home ( it is the law in the UK) you cannot ride without a Helmet on. I found, in the achives, that Dennis B had a solution for getting the seat open, it worked for me. In my case the seat cable had come loose and was not allowing the lock to operate. I don't lock the seat down now unless Iam parking up, and always put my Helmet in my top box.

I've got a Givi top box a friend gave me. I'm going to take it to a local independent scooter shop to be installed. I think I'll start keeping my helmet in it once it's installed, if it fits nicely. If the seat is ever stuck again I'll try sitting on it and giving it a bounce before I give up. Thanks for the replies so far.

The latch by the but rest has to much factory grease .I removed the grease and left it dried .Cooled weather makes the grease to stick. After more then 3 yrs, The seat unlocks every time.

My sweetie's 09 with a Corbin seat never unlatched without a problem. I tried Dennis's fix, ( https://www.silverwing600.com/t120-corbin-saddle-the-best-worst-saddle-i-ever-owned?highlight=corbin+seat+fix ) trimming the rubber bumpers and various oil and grease combinations on the latches. The best method we found for unlatching the seat is to hold the key in the open position and push down on the rear of the front section of the seat. (near the front latch) When this is done you can hear the front latch unhook ..... This may also work if you have overstuffed your under seat storage compartment.

I put my helmet under the seat when I stop. I keep a rainsuit in the rear portion but there's a lot of free space left back there. I might have not put the helmet in properly so it was fully seated and squared up in the helmet space but I don't think so. I'll be even more diligent with that in the future.

You could just use the helmet lock and not put it in the compartment.

I guess I better look at my bike some more and read the manual again. I have eaten and slept since I last did though. We have a dedicated helmet lock on our bikes? I like it put away though. The suspicious side of me doesn't trust the crummy part of the population to not do something like put oil or trash or who knows what into it while I'm away from the bike.

Left side, near the hinge point of the seat. It is a hook that you put one of the d-rings over. When you close the seat, it is secured.

If anyone is interested, whilst talking of the seat area, i fitted a strap across the inner section under the seat to stop things falling into the "helmet" section, just a simple strap with the screws in each side to hold it in place.I have my emergency kit in a plastic box in the top section, puncture repair kit, first aid kit, flashlight, hand cleaner and some plastic ties.
