mirror extenders - First Interstate Ride Empty
PostSubject: First Interstate Ride   mirror extenders - First Interstate Ride I_icon_minitimeWed Sep 10, 2014 12:45 pm

I put about 20 miles on my new Silver Wing last night. I went about 15 miles down the Interstate at 60-70mph, which I've never done before. The SWing did great - very smooth and with plenty left at 70mph. I have a learning curve regarding wind and weather, but now that I've been on the Interstate I can tell the SWing is probably going to be just fine for any interstate driving demands that an old grandpa like me may make.
I was surprised how easy it was to lean - the bike seems to want to lean. I'm optimistic that, if I had to do some evasive swerving, the SWing would tend to keep traction. I came close to dropping my TW200 once while trying to swerve - a young lady on a cellphone if you're wondering.
I felt like the visibility was good, not great, but good. I'll be looking into enhancing the mirrors. IMO the cyclist is most vulnerable from rear ending events because it's harder to react to those, because it's harder to see that kind of thing coming. BTW, Have you seen the new ($1500) Skully helmets with the rear view camera?
Also, it's mighty nice to have a storage area for a few things, instead of having to bungee every little thing.
Still no cup holder yet.

You might try putting mirror extenders in the search box. There are several threads that should give you a number of options for a better rear view. As Mr. Paige said, "Don't look back, something might be gaining on you." Laughing

I got my extenders from here - very quick delivery to the UK, so it shouldn't take long in the US!
One of the best mods you can do, along with a Givi AirFlow screen. (IMHO)

The mirror extenders linked to above are 8mm and our scooters use 10mm. Below is a link to the proper size. I have not used this company, just showing the right kind.

Apologies for any unintentional confusion - right site, wrong size!

I think quite a few Wing owners have bought from this guy, and, like me, been pleased with the product. He also supplies stainless steel hex bolts for fixing, so you don't need to treat them against rust (unless you want to, of course!)

I have no connection with this seller, only as a satisfied customer. Smile

Graham you make a good point on the stainless steel bolts. That makes this seller worth using. I know that one seller also uses low quality anodizing and the extenders turn almost a golden colour in time(not good). So if you know the quality of this seller then I would go with them.

The two best mods I did to my previous SW was the Givi Adjustable Airflow windshield and the Mirror Extensions. The third best mod was the Kaoko throttle lock. Not cheap but worked well and was easy to install. Not micky-mouse jury rigged looking either. The serrated edge make it work well in the winter when wearing heavy gloves. Easier to use than the Throttle Meister on my BMW K bike.

Thank you all for all your help. I ordered the mirror extenders from gas-cap-dude. Safety first.
