| Just bought my first Silverwing. I think I got the shaft. Owner said bike is all original and has 2900 miles ,yes hundred ! title signed over to me and off I go. I get and start reading the title and it says "repaired vehicle and not true mileage" . Hows that for being STUPID ! any way tires are about 1/2 worn and says I think IRS brand tires. Does anyone know if a 03 silverwing cane with these? I'm calling the state in the morning to start tracking my stupid mistake. My wife always says I'm too trusting. Ernie |

| Hi 'ernie', I'm certainly not the guru here, but on my '05 when I got it with 2000 miles on the meter, it had IRC tires installed. Believe that was probably the factory install if I'm not mistaken. I changed mine out with about 8500 miles on them. So, if yours are original, 2900 miles or maybe north of that a few hundred more wouldn't sound to improbable. But remember that on a bike that old to check the manufacturing date on the sidewall. I believe they say anything over five years should be customarily done away with simply as a safety factor. So... other than questionable tires and mileage, I'm assuming that the SWing is serving you well ??? Good Luck !! |

| Thanks for the response. I just rode the bike home tonight. I meant to say IRC tires. It appears the date of manufacture of these tires were 11-07. This tells me that these are the second set of tires on the bike. So there has to be at least 10-12k miles on this bike. I paid $1400 for it so if it's any help to anyone out there remember< Buyer beware ! When am I ever going to learn not to trust people ! Sorry, I'm just venting. At 66 I't properly time to Hang up the helmet anyway. Thanks Ernie |

| $1400 for a 2003 in ridable condition isn't a bad deal IMHO. So I wouldn't feel too bad. And the Wing can go for a lot more than 10,000 miles. It probably would be worth giving it a good looking over (or paying someone to do that if you aren't comfortable doing so).
The IRC tires were the more expensive of the two OEM approved tires (the other are Bridgestones, although I recommend, even with the additional expense, to use the IRCs) |

A "salvage" title basically brings down the resale but if you are planning to ride it there should be no problem. I am guessing you got this for about 1/2 of what is is worth. Enjoy and RIDE!!! |

| I have used Avon Venom Strykes, but having a rear tyre delaminate at about two and a half thousand miles, have gone back to Bridgestone Hoops. I think that the handling and stability is greatly increased with the Hoops. |

| The thing I don't like about the hoops is the too-firm bead. I think those tires are likely to be damaged during installation due to how inflexible the bead is. I don't think the firm bead actually makes the tire any stronger, just makes it easier to damage during installation. I've also seen cracking I don't like around the bead area on Bridgestones for other bikes, but that could have been just a fluke specific to one batch of tires for one particular (non-Wing) bike. I suspect once you get the tire on, if you did so without damaging it, the Bridgestones are fine as a tire - I've certainly never heard of one delaminating. |

| Good morning all. Ok after several phone calls here's where It stands, First the bike was in involved in an accident in aug of 6, 2007 it slid on the right side and scraped up all right side plastics, muffler, windshield and damaged gauges like odometer, temp and whatever else on that gauge cluster. Insurance company paid it off. Local Honda dealer bought from the ins co. and did all repairs and then a state DOT inspector had to look at it and deem it was safe for the road and a new title was issued. At the time of the accident there was 13,433 miles on the bike. New odometer now reads 2911 so total miles are 16,873. Have not been able to reach the folks I bought it from. Surprise ! |

Agreed but it still sounds like an OK deal. Honda did the repairs not some shade-tree mechanic and it was inspected so.... But be aware that at 16K you should consider a new CVT belt, if you keep it! Good luck with this. |

| Earnie good morning and welcome to DA family. I was gonna say with these digital odos. unless your a digital wizzard you cant play with the milage. So I was going to say a new instrument cluster was installed. Every thing you merntioned is all superficial. So unless motor or frame dammage you MADE OUT LIKE A BANDET!!!!!!!!! Though the dealer should have told you the bike was an R title and be up front sad it is anything to turn a buck with most dealers. Ill tell you this at 1400.00 you did great that front facia alone is 400.00 the muffler guard is a tad over 100 the windshiled is i think 150.00 upper panel id 150.00 so do the math earnie. As long as the frame was ok and motor? hell its a walk in the park. Good thing is with these bikes all panels come already color code match to the year of bike . So bottom line is you got a great bike with low miles think of it that way. yES IDE BE PISSED TOO about the dealer not telling me it was an R title but my brother bury that and enjoy the bike. I run either the hoops or diablos. Ran them both and loved them both. Best of luck and trust me your gonna love the bike pal |

| earnie, someone had mentioned a belt. All i can tell you is honda says 16,000 miles and my friend has 27,000 on his as of last year so i reset my light at 16000 miles and ill inspect mine at 25000 miles. We all do things differently. I do all my own work and the belt cheapest i found was 120 or 140.00 a dealer will be at least 300.00 by the time its changed out. The muffelr is in the high range if not more. Many have done there belts at 16,000 miles IMO thats very pre mature but its all good doing it at 16,000 miles. i forgot one thing im sure a new instrument panel is at least 3-400.00 so im thinking the dealer made next to nothing on it between buying it back and ide say 700 to 1000.00 in parts. He sold it prob. for what he had in it. I have priced out every panel on these bikes ( mine is an 09 and candy is a bit more ) and there not cheap. heres some prices for ya i cant find the instrument cluster but im gonna say 3-400.00 range Muffler 16491 $408.37 PROTECTOR, MUFFLER 2670001 $93.55
GUARD, MUFFLER 605551 $18.62
CVR, R. upper panel *R101CU* (WL) (CANDY GLORY RED) 2524578 $162.77
: HOLDER, R. passenger foot peg*NH471M* (MAT EXTREME SILVER METALLIC) 666594 $93.28
SKIRT, R. lower skirt*R101CU* (CANDY GLORY RED) 665108 $52.24
WINDSCREEN 694456 $260.41
COVER, FR. *R101CU* (CANDY GLORY RED) 1558703 $324.20 FR, FENDER. *R101CU* (WL) (CANDY GLORY RED) 683800 $142.14
( If seat had to be replaced ) SEAT, DOUBLE 695774 $396.77 |

| Meter assembly is $457 from Cheap Cycle Parts. That doesn't include the plastic trim. Part # is 37100-MCT-951
I think $1400 was a reasonable price, and I would have paid that if I was in the market for a bike with repair work as described. That said, I too would be annoyed if lied to buying a vehicle (I bought a truck that was in the Katrina flooding without knowing, so I've been there - fortunately the truck worked out fine, as I expect your scooter to work out). |

| Hello again. I've spent the day going through the bike. Drive belt and variator faces look clean and new. Changed drive oil and that looked as if just replaced. Front tire is dated 6/12 and has about 3/4 tread left. Rear tire has lots of tread but is dated 11/07 and has very fine cracks on the side wall so that's first to go. other than a few scratches, bright red body looks good. I did find a couple of plastic tabs broken but learned a long time ago how to plastic weld so those are fixed. things are starting to look up. Thanks everyone. |

| earnie so many places to get tires i have had flawless results with bike bandet. i also got body panels there too. matter of fact something jumped up and bit the underside of my left lower skirt and just orderd one 53.00 from bike bandet. It ias a 1+ inch crack in it and it actually repositioned the lower rear screw bracket and it kicked the panel out and the kickstand wore the paint away go figure. I remember nothing hitting my bike underneath but **** happenes i guess. Keep optomistic earnie i sent you the coast of things so trust me pal you did good. My bling i did alot myself and other things most of my accessories came from twisted throttle in new england |

| Earnie, don't kick yourself too much as 1400 is reasonable for the Swing. You can get lots of SMILES out of it if you just service it and ride it like you should. My 2005 is coming up on 36500 and runs like a million bucks. They are hard to kill if you take good care of them. Ride safe and have fun! |

| Ernie I've got over 51,000 on my 08 Silverwing and have read of someone having in the high 200,000s so if you plan to ride your Silverwing you need not worry. I wouldn't sell my scooter for less than If you do decide to sell it I think you could make money, maybe not a lot because of the rebuilt title but I don't think you can lose money. If you plan to ride and enjoy it you'll forget that word(rebuilt) after your first season. |

| Thanks ,I appreciate that. Finished all the service work and checkup. Took it out for a short ride, about 90 miles, and find I can not find any problems with the bike. It sits differently from my wife's 400 Burgman but has a lot more get up and go. I guess the next thing after the rear tire will be a service manual. Although it's design is so similar to the Burgman I'm not convinced I really need one. I am starting to feel better about this whole mess. Thanks to all. Ernie |

| Thanks Roger. Your lucky you live in such a warm place. Up here in Maine I try to ride as much as possible since I retired. I find I can ride my wife's Burgman down to about 44 degrees comfortably. I usually ride about 12k miles a year but If I lived down your way ,I would do three times that. |

| Thanks everyone. I'm the kind that likes to make things and just completed my first add on. I'll have to figure out how to post some pics. Two little 3 inch bars,1/8 inch thick by 1 inch wide,3 holes and it raises the butt rest up 2 inches. Turns it into a back rest and retains the stock look. My old back needs it. Did some touch up for a few small scratches. I took my right side glove compartment to a local auto parts supplier ,they scan the color and mix a spray can of enamel to match. It is really a close match. I found if you spray a little in a cup it works great for artist brush touch up. Get the cheap artist brushes at walmart in the crafts section, use scissors to trim them to a point and touch up the finest scratches then throw them away. They are 25 for 97 cents. More ideas to come !

| Ernie if you would have said something about a backrest I would have gave you this link, leroy beals backrest mod. But you figured it out on your own and that always feels good. If you make the flat bars about twice as long you can put a little bend in them and fit them to hit your back better. At least it worked better for me. I also taped the holes at the bottom and when I put the bolts through the stock brackets into the homemade risers instead of having nuts rubbing your butt or back I ground the bolts flush. |
