| Spent a week in St. Pete Beach at a friend's condo - it was 80 when I got there, and it went downhill from there! Sunday was great, Monday a little cooler, Tuesday a little warmer, then the bottom fell out! But even though it felt cold, it was still 60 degrees warmer than in Chicago! It seemed that there were a million small scooters on the road, only saw 1 Swing the whole time, lots of Aprilias. Next time, the scoot goes with me! Does anyone know of a reputable transfer bike transfer service operating between Chicago environs and the Gulf coast? If I had anything (almost) other than a Prius, I would trailer it myself, but I think that a trailer would wag the tail something fierce! Anyway, a scooter or something bigger is the way to fly in Florida! Found out about a product called "Love Jugs" for air cooled big twins like Harleys - small electric fans that cool the heads, gotta order two for my son's Classic Softtail! Next time, gonna spend more than a week, and gonna have a scoot to ride! Winter sucks! |

| Not being nasty----just next time ride your scooter----one day straight south can get you in warmer weather.
Right now weather in south really cold. Think about 19F early this AM. Chattanooga.
Riding out of North in winter gives you a sense of accomplishment Started several Daytona trips from northern WI. |

Yikes! There's that "T" word again. Can't we just talk about something less controversial; like oil, oil filters, or Darkside tires?... Tim |

Tim I was surprised that the first reply post wasn't asking if OP had met up with Roger while he was in St.Pete However it's no surprise at all to see Mr Grinsel has yet again expressed an opinion In reply to OP's question, could you put your scooter on a fright train ? It's possible here (so long as the fuel is drained) |

Riding out of North in winter gives you a sense of accomplishment Started several Daytona trips from northern WI. The thought had crossed my mind that in warmer weather, I could do just that. Given that it was 32 and sleeting when we left and 7 when we came back, I refrained from bringing the proposition up to my wife, who traveled with me! From past drives to the Tampa area, one can make the drive from Chicago to St. Pete Beach in 17-18 hours by car with blatant disregard of speed limits. Wouldn't care to push the bike, or my butt so far/fast! |

In reply to OP's question, could you put your scooter on a fright train ? It's possible here (so long as the fuel is drained) While we all don't always agree, we do allow our resident curmudgeons a certain modicum of tolerance and respect. Shipping a scooter via freight train doesn't seem to be an option here --unless you want to pay for your very own box car. Then there would be the On/Off problem. That would seem to leave shipping via truck as the other option. Yeah, truck is a "T" word but no where near as contentious as that other "T" word. |

| Only made it up to St. Petersberg once, at night. The downtown seemed like the place to be. St. Pete Beach is maybe 10-15 miles south. Was hard to pry myself off the beach until it started cooling off! The Colombia Restaurant in Ybor City was a destination one day for lunch. One thing going against the St. Pete area is that the only connection to the Tampa area was by causeways/bridges. I guess I could get used to riding them over time, will have to if I take the Swing down there! |

| Tourezrick you're right about the causeways/bridges. I know one person here who will not ride over a bridge. You're locked in St. Pete. and a couple small towns if you won't go over bridges. If you get back down here with your scooter let me know and I can show you some good roads to ride. It takes a few minutes(and bridges)to get out of town but once you're out of town there's some nice rides around here. Our local scooter club has at least six Silverwings but this time of year we don't go out to the beaches too often. In warmer weather we ride the beaches for the scenery, but not much of that when it's so cold. I do hope you enjoyed your stay. We do cater to tourists down here so it's easy to spend more money than expected. That's where it comes in handy if you know someone local. |
