For those interested in upgrading the swings exhaust here's an idea. Meldrew is probably hammering one out right now!!

Any Brits reading that line would take it to mean something completely different! Smile

Must be like the brit term "smoking a fag". Always makes me snicker.  Smile

We say snigger, snicker make me think of a chocolate covered nougat bar with peanuts we have called Snickers. Most of us old gits still think of them by their old name of Marathon.

It's hysterical!

I have to say I have never found 'Cheers' in the least bit funny - does anyone? Wink

Best thing about Cheers was Kirsty Alley Smile

I did several years ago visit the bar that the series was based on Cool

At least Cheers was understandable. I remember the days of the rabbit ears with only a couple channels to watch, every so often the CBC seemed obligated to make "we the people" suffer through some painfully "not funny in the least" BBC comedy show. I never could follow what they were trying to say. However i do love me a good episode of Mr. Bean!

I think very few TV comedy series stand the test of time, we all probably watched Cheers, Frasier, and Friends back in the day and enjoyed them because they were funny then. For me a classic example are the Christmas Specials of the British comedy duo Morecambe & Wise. Back in the Seventies it was compulsory viewing for the nation on Christmas Day evening, eagerly anticipated and enjoyed and talked about afterwards. Watch some clips 40 years later on YouTube and they're absolute rubbish.

Mrs M watches a lot of American TV comedies and introduced me to the gentle humour of the Gilmore Girls, and the much cruder and funnier Curb Your Enthusiasm. I'm a big fan of The Big Bang Theory, and she'll laugh out load at Modern Family.
