First I am aware that full face is the safest, followed by flip down full face.
But I like to see where I am going and what I am going to hit.
I don't use a mike or ear phones.
Since about 1990 I have had s screwed up neck a result of hitting a deer in Switzerland----while wearing a
Schubert/BMW Golf ball pattern full face----maybe my side vision was blocked at least a little by the helmet???
Anyway deer jumped from 4 ft high hedge almost right into my front wheel---he died, I didn't go down, centerstand and its mounts skinned him. No bike damage other than lots of deer puke. Heavy Schubert Helmet almost pulled neck out by roots as a result of slowing instantly.
Since this incident, I have been sensitive of helmet weight for all day comfort. I currently use up/throw away about 2 helmets a year-----Right I have 2 Arthur Fulmer helmets, AF755 (nearing end of life) a new Fulmer Jet and a Vega NT200 which is all day comfortable---all these were bought as lightest weight each maker offered----I prefer white or yellow color. All are quiet with foam ear plugs. Arthur Fulmer only available from dealers in US. I wear safety glasses always. 2 of my current helmets have face shields, that I use on long trips, putting them down, raising while slowing or tight curves-----I just like to see where I am going.
