Have not purchased a Silver Wing just yet, but am very close to doing so.  Likely to purchase a 2005 model in perfect condition (stored in doors, impeccably maintained, low miles).

I will lurk for some time before I start asking questions - do not want to ask what already has been answered.

Am a former V-Star Classic owner, wanting to get back in the 'game'.  Have owned 7 Honda cars and all were very reliable.  My V Star was as well - it just had a clutch!  So with my positive 4-wheel Honda experiences, I am going to assume the same will apply to their 2-wheel products.

Anyhow, if you have any suggestions about use of the site (things I need to read) or about my purchase, I am receptive.

Thank you.

John

welcome Welcome to the forum.

If you check the navigation box (lower left of page) it should answer most general questions. If you have more specific questions, checking the search box in the upper left should help. There is a lot of information and tutorials on maintenance available here.

Enjoy the ride. motorcycle

Welcome to the forum John! You will find this is the best SWing site for info and conversation. I feel Honda does make a good product. While I've never owned a Honda car I have owned other Honda equipment.

A 1986 Honda HS55 snowblower that has NEVER given me any trouble. Still runs like a champ!
A 1974 Honda CB750 made in Japan to stay in Japan. A serviceman bought it and shipped it home. I rescued it in 89 from a fellow driver's garage where it had been sitting for three years. Lots of TLC and the following year my wife and I rode it to Pensacola, FL. It's still running good.
A 2008 Honda Silverwing from my sister in FL. Had been sitting under a tarp for two years. Trailered it home and some TLC and I've been riding it for two seasons now without a hickup.

John,

Welcome to the site and good luck with your deicison. Don't worry about asking questions here if you can't find an answer using the 'search' function. Like Dale N. said...this is a good site for conversation. You should be very happy with the SWing if you decide to get it. It took me all over California in comfort and has much more power than most think for it being called a 'scooter'. I had mine up to 104 mph per gps so it has plenty of punch to take you anywhere and is very comfortable as well.

Hi John and welcome, I've just changed to a Swing after riding big touring bikes for a number of years and I'm really pleased with it. If you've been looking on here you will see that the bike is very well-built and reliable. The things to look at if it is low miles and not been used for some time would be the tires for cracks, the battery for charge and when the fluids were last changed - but you probably know all of that! jocolor

Cheers John and Welcome to a useful, friendly and helpful place! I'm intrigued by your 'cooperthebeagle' handle. There's a story there for the telling when you're ready :-)

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

Still have not yet acquired said scooter, but it remains on the radar.  I am awaiting a trailer hitch adapter plug and good weather to go and fetch the bike from the dealership (about 150 miles away).

Assuming I acquire by February, it will not be 'on the road' until the authorities here in MD inspect it (that is a very thorough process) and then I will need to register and pay the sales tax.

In response to Peter's question, Cooper is my 13 1/2 year old shadow.  He is mostly beagle, but has some other hound mixed in.  He mostly acts like a beagle.  I tell people he is a mixed breed: part beagle, part hound, and part vacuum cleaner.

I hear what you're saying about getting a vehicle 'on the road'. I recently bought a used 4x4 from interstate and had to change registration to my home state. Had to pass vehicle inspection and receive a roadworthy certificate, attend the gov't office, handover certificate, forms, old plates and alot of $'s for 'stamp duty' (tax), compulsory insurance and registration fee. Luckily there were no faults with the vehicle therefore no repair work required to get roadworthy otherwise more $'s.

Cooper clearly has a deserving human who kindly leaves occasional crumbs and treats that require hoovering from the floor. I have two dogs myself and love 'em to death. Shame they don't like to SWing.
