| Hi guys,
Relatively new 2005 Silverwing owner here, I bought a used one over a month ago and have been learning quite a bit on the forum.
One thing that's been bothering me, they guy I bought it off of only had one ignition key. The seat storage was broken into at some point so he replaced that lock, so I have two keys for the under seat storage and a single key for the ignition and left glove box. Just added a top box so that makes a third key! I can live with having to use 3 different keys but I want to have a spare for each, especially the ignition.
What's the process to get an extra key cut? Go to the dealer? Would the fact that it's a US bike (now registered in Toronto) cause headaches? Or can I just get a spare on ebay and have it cut somewhere?
Thanks! |

| Dealers should have no trouble in getting a blank. Local key shop can cut it, if it has a chip (HISS) the dealer can programme it for you. IIRC the system will only allow three functioning chips. |

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have a chip in it, it's just the metal part. The plastic part from the top of the key is missing, I guess it broke off, but I have no problem starting the bike. There is another metal plate on the keychain (very small) that I think has a code on it. Sound's like I'll have to go to the dealer and ask them. |

| I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the American spec bikes didn't come with the HISS system. If that's the case then the key should be pretty bog standard and not a problem to get a blank cut. Doubt that would stop the dealer charging stupid money though so maybe try normal auto key places first. |

You can probably call dealers in your area and ask where they get extra keys made. I had best luck going to an established key shop (not a box store or auto parts store).

| I had a couple of extra keys cut. I did have to go to a regular locksmith to get it done as the usual Lowes/Walmart/Home Depot did not carry the right blank.
If your Swing is a North American model (FSC600) it should not have a transponder, if it is the Europe or Asia version (FSJ600) it most likely will and you need the dealer and a deeper pocket..... |

| The local locksmith didn't have an exact blank so I ordered one from Amazon and had a local locksmith cut it. |

| I don't believe North American SWs had HISS anti-theft. If I had varruss999's situation I'd have the seat lock rekeyed to match the ignition key. Most locksmiths can do that pretty easily. |

| I have a 2009 US Silver Wing and have extra keys made. No chip needed. Local Lock Smith used medal key blanks. All work fine.

| My 2007 did not have the HISS key and I just went to a well stocked locksmith and they made it no problem. Just try it before you leave the store though. The person who cut my key even went out to make sure it worked. I'm not sure why but it made me feel better that they wouldn't just make a key for anyone. I'm not sure about the newer SWings on whether they have a HISS kety. |

| I got curious and poked around a bit...
HISS is not something I want! Fortunately it wasn't included on the USA version.
The system is part of the ECU, so if you loose all of your keys, it seems you have to replace the entire system!
The transponder key blanks are quite a bit more cost then the plain ones we have here, but I would definitely want to have at least 2 or 3 spare keys cut and programed into the system by the dealer, tested and placed in a secure location!
(A possible option for an "lost all keys" scenario is the replacement of the ECU with the North American version, IF the harness pin-out is the same except for the immobilizer bits.)
