| Alright peoples,
I grew up in Minnesota, went to college in Seattle, lived in Los Angeles, Nashville and Memphis is home.
I've had hot dogs all over, everyone says their way is the only way.
From Chicago, to New York to Los Angeles...what say you?
Ketchup? Mustard only?
Whats good and whats sacrilege on a hot dog? |

| You'll never see ketchup on my hot dogs. Mustard only--a good German variety is best but even plain old yellow mustard will work.
Don't often have hot dogs but had some this weekend while camping. Hot dogs never taste better than when cooked over an open grill. |

| I agree, grilled.
Some prefer skin-on, others skim off.
I prefer ketchup, mustard, onions, cheese and mayo...take that! |

| sauerkraut, mustard.... maybe some dill relish and onions. scratch all of that if chili and cheese is available. Wrap the dog in bacon for a real treat. What we use in America as a hot dog bun is disgraceful. Germany has the right idea with the brochun, but any good quality bun, toasted is best. Two dogs and a dab of potato salad please. No talking while we eat. |

| Ketchup and mustard with onions. Skin on - preferably a Bratwurst but anything will do really.

| A grilled dog with mustard, onion and a touch of relish, or with sauerkraut and brown mustard. Maybe a Skyline either 1,2,3 or 4 |

Yes they do, but Germany is the place to eat them not the US or the UK. Thüringia style rost bratwurst grilled over charcoal and spritzed with beer while they're cooking. They're served not as a hot dog but with a separate bread roll and a dab of mustard, pretty much like all grilled sausages over there. It's hard to get a bad bratwurst anywhere in Germany. Personally I'd always choose the currywurst, a grilled bratwurst covered with a spicy tomato ketchup, and a heavy sprinkling of curry powder. Over here most hot dogs seem to be nasty smoked bockwurst sausages shoved in a tasteless white bun with soggy onions and I tend to avoid them. Five Guys do a pretty decent one when loaded up with all the extras, they're messy to eat though. The exception being a proper butchers sausage like Cumberland, oven cooked so when you bite there's a snap to the skin before meaty juices and rough minced/ground pork tickle your taste buds. Tomato ketchup is fine, so is spicy brown HP sauce, better still is hot English mustard that if you overdo it will clear your sinuses! Onions need to be slowly fried until caramelised. As for the bread roll, a nice big one thickly buttered to soak up that unctuous mixture of meat juice, melted butter, onions, and mustard.

| No limits! Brats simmered in dark beer then finished on the grill. Served on a hoagy bun that has grey poupon mustard on one side, horse radish on the other side then a splash of Hot Chulula sauce, topped with dill relish, chilis and jalepenos, and then kraut, then a drizzle of yellow mustard over the kraut. This will set you free... It is named "The After Burner"... |

Good point... Well, the last Hot Dog I had was when I'd ridden into town by scooter. That should be enough of a connection |

RTE = Ride to eat. A very common theme for motorcycle group rides. So, yes, hot dog condiments has everything to do with scooter talk. How many packages of hot dogs will fit in the under seat storage? When you buy hot dogs, do you match the number of dogs with the same number of buns? When someone complains about "hot dogs" for lunch, what do you do? This is not a multiple choice question here. I just say "So" followed by the worlds longest pause. One time, I was grilling hot dogs and one rolled and fell into the coals. I grabbed it with the tongs and put it on the side plate and squirted some mustard on it and took a big bite of it. A friend was watching and he was "horrified" I had to explain to him that there are many people who grill steaks directly on the coals. "no way" he said.... until I showed him this technique online. I lived in Germany for 6 years. When down town, we called bratwursts "hot dogs" cuz we were Americans. 1963 and 10 years old. |

| Philly isn't a big hot dog town --but we do have for those overpriced, sawdust-filled things they pass off as hot dogs at the ballpark. I do, however, prefer ketchup & fried onions on my cheese steak.
+++ for Chicago dogs, anyway "they" put 'em together --but they've gotta be "Vienna Beef" though.

| Costco hot dogs! Excellent Polish foot long dogs with relish, ketchup, sauerkraut, and a bit of mustard. Big hotdog and cup of Pepsi for a $1.50. It just doesn't get better. Add to that they have motorcycle parking near the door an it's a great place to get lunch on the cheap.
To all Chicagoans like my old friend Rich who says ketchup on a hot dog is a sacrilege I say, "suck it up, I like it that way!" |
