| Has anyone had this happen to them. After enjoyed a nice Saturday afternoon ride I parked and stretched my legs for about 15 minuets. Started bike up then rolled backwards.putting the front wheel right thru a nice pool of oil. Turned motor off put bike on center stand and look underneath. I found the oil filter (K & N) with the nut on the end had failed where the nut attached to the filter housing. Was due an (8,000 mile) oil change in another 50 miles or so all was good there. Fortune was smiling that day because there was an Auto zone very near by. |

| Thankfully this could have been MUCH worse! I personally have never used a K&N oil filter; a bit spendy for my taste. |

| So what area failed? case cracked, gasket failed, nut weld failed? Very few filters fail in this manner. |

| The filter was installed before i purchased the scoot. The filter has a nut style head on the end, it failed where the nut was made up to the housing. |

| K&N has a much higher opinion of their products than I have ever had--here's a rant I made 13 years ago re: their air filters--nothing has changed since then... |

| Impressive rant, Cliff. Thank you for not opening that can of worms here.
Dare I ask whether you may have also editorialized on oil filters?

Tim In 2002/03 I dissected a number of oil filters for the 1st generation Miatas after having a very poor experience with Bosch and Fram filters--here's a link to that report. With respect to K&N's oil filters most detailed analyses I have read have found them to be average or arguably a bit better than Purolator--generally my "go-to" filter, though I do use Motorcraft filters from Walmart on both of our Toyotas, my wife's '03 V6 Highlander and my '09 V6 Tacoma. I use a Purolator L14612 filter on the S'Wing, it has the same 20 μm filtering and 14 psi bypass pressure as the Honda 15410-MFJ-D01. It does have a bit more filter area as it is 11 mm taller than the OEM filter... |
