| You're a bit slow on the scooter news over the Pond. The Yamaha X-Max 300 was a new for 2017 scooter, I first looked at one on display at our national bike show last November. There's also lots of YouTube reviews to look at if you're interested.
The X-Max 300 has been on sale over here since the Summer and a couple of lads on the Muppets forum already have them. I've had a ride over to a couple of local Yamaha dealerships to look at them since then. The X-Max 300 would be one of my top downsizing choices, but currently I'm more interested in buying riding gear.
Yamaha have also recently updated their Yamaha X-Max 400, so it's spec and looks are now identical the X-Max 300. More poke for droning along Interstates? Well maybe, but since the 300 seems a very capable performer, it may not be worth the extra cost and weight for a bit more speed. |

| Not slow just late. We don't get a lot of fine machines other countries get. OR if we do and they don't sell gone forever. Yamaha announces new stuff in the fall over here. SEPT.
Honda NC 700 only here about 4 years. Still around in UK bigger engine now I think.
Seat height is not an issue for me. Leg room is. 300 cc engine should do at least 75-80mph. |

| Having tried the 300 X-Max for size I found the seat a fair bit harder than the Swing (but most things are). The motor is supposed to be excellent, and good for over 90mph easy. I've got a full review from the final ever issue of Twist and Go magazine, where it was put up against the outgoing 400. Basically the 300 had a little less power but a lot less weight, plus better handling and economy. It was my second choice against my new Swing, but the lower seat height and plusher seating and included top-box meant I finally opted for the Swing. |

| Old post I know but I just saw one in a local dealer. Very nice ride! I was impressed with the scoot, build quality seems fine. Downside is for short people, the height is higher than I would have expected. I have a friend (short) who has a 28" inseam and he can not flat foot this scoot so he bought a new 2015 Burgman 400. NOTE the new Burgman 400 (2018) the height has been increased by 1.5 inches... Hence he bought the NOS model. |

| There does seem to be a fad for steadily increasing seat heights. Which is funny, because most people don't get taller ask they get older, and 'biking' certainly has an aging demographic. |

| I really think many manufacturers are losing a big percentage of sales by not offering lower seats. A tall person can ride high or low seat heights; a shorter person, including lots of women (buyers) can only ride short seat heights, or not ride at all. Note that Harley, BMW, and other manufacturers have only recently gotten smart by offering a "lower" seat option. Duh! 'bout time! Comments above in this post verify that customers will buy a different bike if the lower seat is available.
Lots of great bikes out there are restricted to half of the market: tall people. Half the market is below average height. Throw in women, and that short legged market is increased.
Why is the X Max seat 31.3" if it's not an all terrain bike? Maybe it's a real "adventure" scooter, but what single track mountain bike trails will we ride it on? |

| Talking new bikes and US dead scooter market. I am always looking ahead to the next bike/scooter. The Yamaha Xmax and Kymco are the only things available in the price/weight market I look to. Seat height within reason does not seem to bother me as much as overweight bikes/scooters do.
Only BMW has scooters with easy to remove rear wheels as far as I know---but they are way overpriced and I feel their service requirements and cost can be excessive. Might explain, I am BMW owner since 1958, so some experience here. |

| Interesting. But I refer heater/AC/radio in real crappy weather. Complicated. US where lane spitting/sharing only allowed in CA, useful?
Light vehicles---already had 2 Messerschmitts=wonderful, cheap at the time, light---heater/radio. Good in snow.... Somebody in UK made Helix powered replicas |

It's not new, the Swiss made Quadro 3 and 4 wheeled scooters have been out for a few years now. I first looked at both the Quadro 3 and Quadro 4 scooters at the UK 'Motor Cyle Live!’ show in Birmingham in 2015, and again the following year. Quadro are now on their second UK importer in that time and both have failed miserably to establish a countrywide dealership network. Last time I looked there were about half a dozen. If you poke round on YouTube you should be able to view clips of Quadro's adventure versions, the Quadro 3 Edelweiss and the Quadro 4 Steinbok. |

| The Automoto was a nice trike scooter option with a roof, windshield wipers, 4-speaker audio system, and reasonably priced that petered out too soon. Put a roof on the Yamaha Tri-City for competition.
Anyway, I took a nice 140 mile ride on my recently acquired Xmax 300 yesterday through some PA back roads, winding hills and mountains to include secluded Fowlers Hollow State Park. Wow, how that park changed after my first visit 20 years ago. It had been a very open area with few trees and a rushing stream. Now it's all closed in with vegetation, trees/woods, and more secluded campsites.
One outstanding item I noticed was how relatively comfortable the Xmax seat was. The seat composition seems to spread the butt bone weight more so that the weight is not centralized to a smaller area. This is where a stiff seat becomes more comfortable after more miles. On most bikes, I need to feel a need for a break after 50 miles, but I could have gone farther before a break on the Xmax. Still, the Swing would have offered a little more overall comfort on longer rides.
Another issue that I usually have is anticipating fuel ups and calculating range, but with the mileage computer on the Xmax showing a fairly steady 88 mpg, and the fuel meter moving rather slowly, those issues were diminished. |
