PostSubject: "Thanks" feature revisited   "Thanks" feature revisited I_icon_minitimeTue Mar 27, 2018 7:11 pm

After a conversation with a respected member of the forum and putting much thought into the matter I have decided to stop using the "Thanks" +/- feature on the forum. What I thought was going to be a good idea has not turned out as appreciated as I had hoped. For those of you that I left a "Green Line" for...I meant it and for the ones of you who left me a "Green Line" I appreciate it. When someone leaves a Negative (Red Line) to another member it is offensive and since both are readily available it is all too easy to use. I hope this feature can eventually be eliminated but until then it just causes too much controversy. If you feel the same way after thinking about it..........please join me in abandoning this feature. If you choose to use it at least think about it before leaving a negative response because ALL opinions mean something whether you agree or not. Thank you for listening to my rambling and at least think about what I have said.

Giving all due credit; at least CWR is acknowledging he unintentionally poked a wasp nest. So "hats off" to him for trying to rectify that.

I don't even have a + or - thingie on my comments. Now I feel left out. Crying or Very sad Oh well. It doesn't really matter to me. If someone likes, or dislikes, my comments just say so. It's a lot easier.

WOW! Dale N. That was a great comment! Thanks for posting it.

See. That didn't even get me a +. WTH...

And here I was with a totally different thinking.
A + showed appreciation without showing another post to read.
A - showed other negative feelings without all the bashing and arguing that the majority threads turn into. It also eliminates personal attacks which happen when someone is upset because their post was attacked.

As an example, the person leaving negatives, I didn't have to read any of their negative comments, yet they were able to leave negative feedback fulfilling their need to respond negatively. But others had to still comment on the negatives which meant I only had to read half as many posts. If those others had just hit the - then the thread would have been nice, clean, and on topic.

The +/- eliminates the arguing, thread hijacking, and banning.

But, you know what they say about opinions!! I submit to the ruling majority and powers that be.

I see that yet again I got a red line in a joke thread ... https://www.silverwing600.com/t10437-an-oldie-with-a-twist#106050 ... now I might be getting paranoid but, it seems to me that if another member finds my liking a joke unaccep[table, then surely that member should find all others that liked the same joke equally as unacceptable & given them all red lines as well.
Yes, I am finding this red line bollucks to be tedious now, it's also noteworthy that Lloyd the paranoid is now up to 63 negatives given

My feeling is that the negative indicator should be eliminated. My parents always said, "If you cannot say something positive, then don't say anything.". There must have been good intentions when the +/- was created, but it seems to spark too many arguments and it is my feeling that it should be eliminated. Keep the + sign. My 2¢.

I am amazed that most people on this site are a bit older, and are letting this ruin your life.  I'm 58 which is probably around the average age.  I just find it strange that people my age put so much merit into this (+ -) button.  It is obvious that so many here must have lived an unbelieveably rich , perfect life to have something as small as this little feature bug the crap out of a few of you.

Some of you were old enough to be in Nam and this little thing is what ruins your life.  If you don't like it just don't look at it or just get the HELL off this site.  I'm getting really tired of people bitching about such small things.  Most just give a crap about this thing, or other things, but if you don't like it then get the HELL off my site.

If I hear much more bitching of such petty crap I will simply delete this site. I don't want to do that but I'm done with the people who are new who join up and bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch. I'm tired of it. So stop or go somewhere else.

I hope you realise my comment was light hearted. I don't even look at the + -. I don't have a thin skin unless my cat digs his nails into it, which he does on a regular basis... Other than that it doesn't bother me, the + - or the cat.

Dale,

This was not directed to you at all.  There are a few people here to just complain and i'm just tired of it.  It is not you at all Dale so please don't think it is.

FOR THOSE THAT CARE ABOUT THE + - BUTTON

If you don't like CNN...then don't watch CNN.  Don't complain about it just don't watch.  If you don't like FOX ...then don't watch FOX.  Don't complain about it just don't watch it.  If you don't like MSNBC...then don't watch MSNBC.  Don't complain about it just don't watch it.

If you don't like the red/green button then just don't use it and don't even look at the results.  Don't complain about ..just don't use it.  This applies to a few people only...but they seem to complain the most.  I'm tired of it.  Shut up or get the hell off my site.

Sorry to be so direct..But I have been funding this site since day one and these new people come on the site and bitch.  I'm tired of it.  If you don't like it then start your own site.

I pretty much understood that. I just wanted to make sure. I'm pretty much a card with a good sense of humor and can't understand the beef some have about it. It seems lately there are a few who get upset over nothing. And I agree with you.

I care. Not only has it disrupted the forum I try to manage, but, as you've no doubt noticed, the entire disruption also pissed off the pope. Really pissed him off.

Tim

PS: My apologies to all the forum members for allowing this disruption to go on for so long without a resolution.

How warm do you need it Dale ? I 'be been riding all winter apart from a week or two when we were snowed in. I have a heated vest and heated grips. It has got a little warmer in last few weeks but still doing 150/300 mls a week. I know winter in the UK is not as severe as some states in the USA, but then again our "summers" are not as warm .

I don't like snow and ice on the roads and the temp has got to be at least 50. Here in MN they are talking more snow and ice for the next few days again. The old saying is: If you don't like MN weather stick around a few days and it will change. And it usually does.

I don't mind the cool weather but here in my area they have this " thing " about what they like to call preemptive action, just S in snow or the I in Ice being mentioned on the news brings out the brine sprayers SadSad The majority of the time it just dries out and become the annoying white dust on your vehicle and washed off into our streams. After this current round of continual rain cold and fog moves out maybe I'll be able to sneak a ride in, at least the salt will be gone.
