Last week I replaced the gas strut for the seat. Got one off Amazon, straight from China for less than 16 bucks. It was a 20kg strut, I was worried that it would be too stiff, but once in, it works just fine. The only other thing I had to do to it was to drill out the holes on either end so the bushings that were on the original would fit.

We headed out to Canada this morning and my bike was un-ridable with the tall Givi windscreen. WAY too much vacuum behind the fairing and the equalizing port that blows up the back of the windscreen can't even come close to being able to equalize it. It was so bad that by the time we got to Trego my neck was sore from the vacuum pulling my helmet ahead.
So we turned around and came back and I cut down the windscreen on mine to stock height. I like the width of the Givi, and the wind wings on it. But not the height. As long as I was working on it, last night I came across a set of 30gr Dr. Pulley rollers - not the sliders. I don't like the sliders because they run too many rpm's around town. Rollers. I had saved 'em from when we had our 2002's. Those went in my bike.
My wife wanted to leave her windscreen at the tall height.
After I got mine back together we went on a 80 mile cruise for the afternoon. We checked gas mileage after we got back. At fillup mine got 54.8 mpg. My wife's bike got 50.1. And she's 55 lbs lighter than I am. Not caused by those 30gr rollers. When I tested that on the 2002's they only made about a 1/2 mpg difference. The windscreen is what's sucking hers down. It's dragging a big bubble of turbulence behind that tall screen. It's not aerodynamically clean with the equalizing port unable to equalize the pressure.
We traded bikes for about 15 miles so she could try out the stock height windscreen and she agreed it was way better than hers. So I'm cutting hers down tonight and we're re-leaving for Canada tomorrow.

Others have posted similar problems with tall shield.. and they also cut it.
Givi adjustable it the best windshield i have ever had on any bike that i owned. Quiet and good air flow.
Have a great trip and enjoy.. Wish i could do that someday.

I think the Givi screens were worth the money because of the wind wings and extra width. Should've gotten stock height. The problem is totally gone with the stock height. I cut 4 1/4" off it.
With the 30g rollers it turns 4,700 rpm @ 60 mph and is still pretty decent around town. My wife's bike is almost 5 Grand at 60 mph, but part of it is because it's working harder dragging that big windscreen.

Welcome Jake to the BEST SWing site on the net. When I first got my 08 SWing I rode it around town for an hour or so to get the feel of it. Once I felt comfortable with the ride and handling of it I took it on the highway. I was really impressed. I had it converted to a trike over the winter and really like it now too.
For some reason this comment was posted to the wrong topic. It was supposed to go to "Jakes Toys". I copied and pasted it there.

Playing catch up here. Yesterday I replaced the Hydraulic Shock for the seat. Took off the rear and side panel to change out the air filter. Now waiting for the new Air Filter to arrive to replace it.
This a.m. I also pulled, inspected and checked the spark plugs for their gapping, as I am not sure when they were changed last. Plugs still look good @ 14k. A slight adjustment was made to one of the plugs. All-in-all, all these were pretty easy tasks.
Also checked my fluids and then give it a good dusting off ( have to look pretty out there on the road ) and out of the garage we went for another enjoying ride. Sun was hot, winds were a bit strong at times, but overall a great day.

Not the neatest of copy & paste jobs, but here is Our Dear Leader, JeffR's, tutorial:

A: Select the "Send a Pic" (then) {Make sure you are in your Personal Album} B: Upload a pic from your machine-click on "Choose File" (find your pic on your computer) --Hit "Add File" C: This puts your new pic in your album.
2) Go the the picture in your Album.
A: Click on your new picture in your album. (This brings you to the picture page) B: Go to the "BBCode of the Picture" (You will see the url in the box) C: You need to highlight the entire url in this box (click in the box) - when the box Highlights D: Right click your mouse over the highlighted area and "RIGHT CLICK" and hit "COPY" E: Go to your post in the topic you want to post in and then --right click -- and hit PASTE
If you just want to post an Attachment to your post as below:
1: Hit POST REPLY - (towards the bottom of the page) 2: You come to a new page to reply - Scroll down until you see - ATTACH FILE and File Name 3) Click "File Name" - 4) Find your picture in the file you placed it in on your computer. 5) Click the picture and you probably need to hit 'Open" on your file 6) This will post the attachment in your post.

Over the weekend I finally got around to changing the air filter. Wasn't that hard a job after I watched a couple of videos and realized I didnt have to take anything except the side panel and filter cover off.
After that I decided to open up the cvt drive for the first time to see what its condition was. Bike is a bit shy of 6k miles and when I got it, it had about 4300. Everything looked ok, no unusual wear on the belt or pulley faces. Put it back together and have yet to take it out, riding the spyder for the last couple of days instead. Probably tomorrow or Friday I'll take it to work.

Went for a 120 mile ride stayed local with weather forecast calling for t-storms. Ate lunch and checked weather I was about to get wet so took off for highway. Go up on ramp there was a truck flap there and avoided that. Looking left to merge I pinned throttle and heard a strange noise. Lost traction for a second on rear wheel strange but no slide. I think I ran over a sign or metal sheet sounded like metal. A little scary. Out flanked storm and stayed dry. Couldn't duplicate noise after that had to be something I hit.

Finally took the bike out yesterday for a fairly quick run before I was chased home by the rain. CVT felt smoother, not sure if it was due to the cleanout or just not riding her for a while, but she did fine. Predicting rain for the better part of this week, so probably not much riding on either bike for a bit.

I had quite a time yesterday, decided to ride over to the local Jersey Mike's for a #13 regular on white. Noticed the road over there was full of brand new tar snakes, seemed a bit squirrelly around a big curve. Rode carefully to avoid them and came to a stop sign. Took off normaly, got barely through the intersection and suddenly went sideways. Seems it wasn't the tar snakes making it handle funny, there was a nail in the tire and it let go of the rim. Well, I have an enclosed trailer that I bought for hauling my toys around, but the Givi windshield on my Wing is too high and won't let me ride it up the ramp into the trailer. So I called a tow truck, waited over an hour, and got it towed to my house. $175!!! Thinking back, I could have just busted the windshield, used my own trailer and still been money ahead after buying a new windshield. Now today I pulled the wheel off and went to 3 different shops to see if I could get it repaired. Seems no one around here will repair a motorcycle tire, and I kind of agree. So I ordered a new Pirelli Diablo from Dr. Mudspringer and it will be here and installed by Thursday afternoon. While I'm waiting I think I'll try cutting the windshield down so I can actually put it in my trailer.

I aired up my tires this afternoon. My FOBO TPMS sent alerts to my phone last night. My fronts were below 25 and my rear was below 29. I was on the island of Kauai for a little over a week and when I returned my FOBO TPMS sent the alerts. Tires still looks like it has more than 2k miles left in them still. So far I have almost 15k miles on my original IRC tires. Inspection indicated no cracks/nails. Will wait and replace my tires later this year. Already have replacement IRCs waiting in my storage.
