Yes a flying brush hog, with 9 cutting units stretching about 30 feet came to our place today to cut the trees along our power line. It's quite a sight to watch this thing work and I'll say quite a talented helicopter pilot to operate it. The power company told us to expect power outages, the first one a bit over 4 hours then regular power came back on, about a half hour latter power went off again and the familiar thump of a chopper was heard.

That's the unit, the only other tree devouring equipment I ever saw that was as impressive was a tree shredder land based, that has a boom that places the shredder over the top of the tree and presto turns the entire tree into mulch in a matter of moments.

Ohh, would be great to see that happening, don't think we have that in the UK yet though

Dale it was and I'm darn glad I didn't have to pay for the service. I took a few pictures but the video is way more impressive. It's only been 3 years since they cleared the right of way with land based equipment, they did a good job but the area is on a steep hillside close to the wires and the upper sections of larger trees were a threat to the lines. It would have taken days of manual labor to even come close to what MD 500 did in a half hour or so.

I've never saw that type of blade before.
Railroad has a good saw. Big blade on a long folding arm cuts so fast. Goes through a foot of wood in about 2 seconds. It was interesting to watch.

That is impressive. The power company here had problems with little old ladies climbing in trees to keep them from trimming "their" trees. Bet that would get them moving along with a lot of other squirrels.

Old ladies would be the first ones calling when a storm knocked out their power though. Tree rats duck and run just a game for them.

In my younger days I much preferred the au natural look, and also had problems with a couple of ladies that liked to trim "their" bushes!
