| Hello All, I have a 2009 plate swing with only 3500 miles on the clock. I'm wondering whether to have the belt changed, I'm a bit concerned that the rubber will have degraded. I contacted the dealer that services my Vespa and his opinion was that it didn't need doing. I'd be grateful for your opinions, please. Thanks.

| Take the cover off and take a look. If it were mine, I would keep the OEM rollers and replace belt only. My Honda rollers were replaced at 14K and did not show any wear at all...
So for $115.00 or so you would have piece of mind. Good luck. |

| When I bought my 2005 I replaced the belt only the rollers were good. This after 8 K miles and 10 years. The belt was ok but I was in there cleaning and checking so for peace of mind it got replaced. |

| It is a low mileage SWing. I wouldn't worry too much about the drive train. Certainly, open up and clean and inspect, but I doubt you will find anything that needs replacing. As for the weather affecting anything, it is a closed system, so no UV degeneration. Keep your replacement belt handy just in case. Instead, check /replace the tires, replace the brake fluid, oil and filter, coolant, final drive oil and give it a good go-over look see. You'll feel better for doing these.

| When I bought my 08 SWing from my sister in FL it had been sitting under a tarp for two years. I trailered it back to MN and did some maintenance on it like battery, tires, oil and filter. I also changed the belt and put 26 gram sliders in it. The belt mainly to be on the safe side and the sliders from comments I read on this site. It's never given me a lick of problems. It wasn't riding season up here anyhow so I had time to kill and get to know how to do stuff on the SWing. Better safe than sorry I always say. |

| bunny999 I bought a low mileage scoot (not as low as yours mind) and have had no issues with the belt. i worried more about tyres etc from long term standing. If you want an honest dealers assessment go to 21st Moto at Swanley. Yes they will charge for labour but their honesty about service parts puts them way ahead of the competition (I don't ride over a 100 miles for their MOT for the hell of it)
Also their service costs (If you don't self service) are displayed on the wall so you know what your paying from the onset |

| I did my belt change at 16000 miles, all the existing parts were re-useable, no wear on anything. A strong transmission system from Honda. I did renew the parts anyway, because I brought them at 10% discount through showing the Honda Owners club membership card at the Honda dealer. |
