| Hi All I have been noticing my 2005 silverwing has very bouncy back shocks Even tough it’s on the #2 setting and I have not put any miles on it in years . ( I bought it used with 11k miles) I leave it at my marina but noticed this issue when someone moved it Any quick fix for this ? As I bought the wrench that changes the settingS .. so should I change it from #2 to a 1 or 5.. As I mostly solo ride ? Or should I have complete shocks replaced. .. and what type ?
Thanks in advance |

| First try adjusting----bike is 15 years old, too. Based on my 90,000 miles plus with 2 new Silverwings, if you replace shocks try OEM (maybe expensive) but they fit!! |

| It could be that your shocks are set too soft, try them at a different setting. Daft question, but are your tyre pressures correct? A too low pressure will cause bouciness . |

| It's simple enough to change settings, the Owner's Handbook has all the relevant info about changing them from rider, to rider and passenger. I was happy with the Honda recommended setting of 3 for solo riding and used it for years. I also found that adding the extra weight of touring kit didn't make the slightest difference to ride comfort. Upping it to 4 was pretty much the same, and 5 was only used when Mrs M rode with me.
As already mentioned, the Honda recommended tyre pressure are important too, upping them when riding with a passenger.
In contrast I've never altered the rear shock setting on my Forza since I bought it, they're not numbered like the Silver Wings. At a glance I'd say they're also on 3 and they work great for general riding or when loaded up for touring. Not that l'm likely to get much done this year with all the Covid-19 restrictions in place. |

| What tire pressure should it be at for limited riding use? I check my Dunlop tires before I ride and they always seem firm..like if they were tubeless.. I also almost lost control of the bike The other day when I went on a part of the road that was being repaved. Very scary.. thanks again for your help. As these shocks are way too bouncy and perhaps dangerous |

| What pressures are your tyres currently at? There is a sticker on the tunnel giving the correct pressures. In the OP you say you've not put any miles on it in years, after a couple of months both tyres will have lost pressure and after a couple of years they would be lethal. You did check the pressures before you set off didn't you? |

| 29psi/2.00 bar front, 33 psi/2.25 bar rear for solo, for two-up the rear goes to 36psi/2.5 bar.
Maybe you need a copy of the owners manual? |

| Get OEM shocks from your Honda Dealer......maybe they can tell you if you really need them. They are also source for Owner's manual. |

| Honda shocks are around $ 200 each. Many have replaced them with Hagon shocks. The only dealer in North America is in Canada. British Cycle Supply Company. I don't know their prices but should be less. Side wall of tire first two numbers is week last two is year. Any tire older than about six years should be replaced. Age of tires and condition are a good indicator of when to replace. |

| Come on mate, you've been given the recommended rear shock settings, info on aftermarket shocks, the tyre pressures, the info that's printed on a tyre sidewall about when it was made etc. You need to use your own judgement on the condition of your tyres.
It's easy enough to visually check for cracks in either the tread or the sidewalls. There's also info on tyre manufacturers websites, there's any number of How to websites, and a quick search on YouTube will show a load of visual tutorials on checking tyres for deterioration.
If in doubt replace them and get into the routine of checking your tyre pressures regularly with an accurate pressure gauge even when you're not riding. Or if you're leaving the Silver Wing for a long period of time, try and put something under the front tyre to keep it off the ground to prevent it getting a flat spot.

| Boating123 as you're not to sure about tyre pressures I'm guessing you won't be working on the bike yourself, so in addition to the cost of new shocks you will need to allow for a mechanics time to do the work. |

| Use the center stand when parking for a long time. If you think the shocks are bad just replace them. Just because the tread looks good does not mean the tires are good. Dry Rot, Age, flat spots.
