| hello again from Egypt to all reputed silver wing forum members,
I wanted to replace my fork oil from 10w to 20w to improve stiffness of the fork specially that I'm living in a hot weather country , we don't get snow in Egypt here in the winter , therefore I started searching for 20w fork oil to use for my silver wing however I couldn't find any 20 or 15w fork oil in Egypt , we have motul brand here in Egypt but they only have 10w fork oil , and because I can't order fork oil from outside Egypt so I have to find a replacement oil I can use for my fork , so i find motul MOTUL 7100 20W-50 4T WITH 100% SYNTHETIC oil , so I really need your help guys , can I use it as a fork oil , i also found many type of motul ATF oil but I don't know its thickness because it is not written on the box.
in conclusion
1- can I use MOTUL 7100 20W-50 4T oil as a replacement for fork oil ? if not why please 2- can I use ATF oil and which ATF oil in motul that will match 20w thickness so i can use as a fork oil ?
thanks my dears for your help and I'm looking forward for your answers
this is Ramy Gamal from Egypt sending my regards to all of you

| An internet search with the following question will give you lots of info and opinions: Can synthetic motor oil be used as motorcycle fork oil? |

| The Silverwing front forks are simple beasts so you could in desperation use pretty much any oil, provided it doesn't react with either the plastic or rubbers seals and bits, although you most likely won't see any improvement.

| Hi ramy gamal from the uk.
Just a thought having read your original post and what you wanted to achieve from it.
If you want to truly transform the front forks on a Swing(having done it) I would recommend you purchase a Hyperpro progressive front forks spring kit which includes their 20w replacement oil as standard. I have added a link to get you started, should you wish too.

Hope this helps.

| Thanks JohnyC , I actually did another idea from my friend Stefano Bonacasa you can see the video it from the link below
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMXjRO24s7Q
however I still need to get 20w fork oil
unfortunately I can't order Hyperpro fork springs because they won't ship it to Egypt because the fork oil is forbidden to be shipped with the springs and that's why I did this idea however I used 10w fork oil but I still need to buy the 20w fork oil but I can't find it in Egypt anymore even 15w fork oil, anyway thanks again for your help Dear |

| I wonder if there is something you could add to 10w oil to make it 'thicker'? Perhaps a blend of oils which are available to you? I'm no alchemist but your options seem rather limited.
There are so many pros and cons. Maybe it's a case trying it out?

Thanks for your comment Dear I wouldn't worry too much about getting heavier fork oil, I seriously doubt that you'd see all that much difference. Even after upgrading my forks to progressive, the front suspension on the SW's seems to be a weak point for these bikes, especially in comparison to my Burgman 650. |

| You can always try construction equipment/tractors hydraulics or floor jack fluids, they usually range between 10-30 viscosity, in a hot place like yours probably thicker is more common, even multigrade 10W30 "hydraulic fluid" could work fine. I have used 5W20 "engine oil" on some Chinese scooters, worked better than regular fork oil, but I would advice against it on heavy scooter like SW600. Do not use any oil labeled "High Mileage" they have seal conditioners that could cause swelling of seals and sticking/binding forks. |
