| I spoke with Gary (Opalsboy) this morning and he was in the hospital. Seems a truck pulled out in front of him yesterday, while he was on his scooter. He layed the scooter down at 30 MPH instead of hitting the truck. He just had surgery on his foot. Sounds like he got pretty banged up. So if you get a chance, please send a note. GET WELL SOON!!!!!! |

| Hey fella, just now saw the posts... what a damn shame. Sorry it turned out so rough. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. Just had a 63 year old gent in Topeka yesterday who had a car pull into him and his MC... he's suffering from some life threatening injuries now. So I hope this epidemic ends soon. Get well and come back soon. |

| So sorry to hear about this Gary. I wish you a speedy recovery. It seems like every year about this time people in cages need to re-learn that they need to pay more attention to their driving, look twice, and watch for motorcycles. |

| Well, I just got off the phone with Gary and he said that they might let him go home tomorrow. 8 weeks he will need to wear his foot cast. He asked me if I would post this picture of his new cast...So here it is. |

| Gary, sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are able to send and receive posts. I know all of your friends here will keep you in their thoughts and prayers. I found a way to get "noticed" on my scooter Thursday morning. I work as a security guard at night and was leaving work about 4 AM. I waited at the exit for an oncoming car to pass and pulled out behind it. I thought the guy was going to break his leg finding the brakes. Yep, no reflective vests, hi-vis suits, or special lights, just my company blue shirt and dark pants and a silver half-helment I wear around town. Heck, I may have found my new riding apparel. Also isn't it funny that a three year old in the backseat can spot a bike three blocks away, but the driver says "I never saw him". You get well Gary and get back out there soon. |

| Gary sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident. I hope your not totality laid up. When you get your scoot back see if they can paint your cast the same color. Hang in there. |

| Gary, I do hope you get well soon. A "bit of practical advice": Several years ago, I broke my ankle skiing. The doctor put a cast on similar to yours. NO ONE gave me "practical" instructions on cast care....just 2 crutches. I went home and took a shower. Needless to say, the next day the water in the cast had "soured" and the smell was horrible!! so I sprayed LYSOL down inside the cast and it smelled "better" , but I learned this: Don't shower with an unprotected cast. Wrap the cast in a plastic bag and put a heavy rubber band around the top when showering and you will do fine!!! best to you and safe scootering soon....billc. |

That is a great suggestion. Which color? The color of the body panels would remind you of your SWing. The color of the "black" foot rest color would hide your cast while your riding. |

| Hey Gary, Glad to hear you are home. I hope your recovery goes fast. When your leg starts itching under the cast, just unbend a metal coat hanger and cram it down in there. That always worked for me. |

| Thanks again everyone... things are going just fine. I sleep well at night..(can we say pain pills) stay really busy during day answering the phone and the door (actually just saying "Come on In, the door is open.) I have had literally hundreds of calls and visits both in the hospital and at home. There were dozens of times that my cell, my wifes' cell and the room phone were all ringing simultaneously. .My wifes Sunday School class is providing lunch every day this week. My class is providing breakfast for me. All this and then finding your well wishes here on the forum is mind boggling. My goodness , Obama would not get this much attention here. Kurt from Pert might.... but he probably talks funny. Have had a little business to work on getting insurance information to my carrier. Looks like the other vehicle may be chipping in for some of the costs. Will know is a few days. No police report yet, our city policeman is Turkey hunting. My health insurance is coving the medical bills for now. Scooter will be fixed by one of the insurance companies. Mine or the other guys. Doesn't matter to me. I will be unable to ride for AT LEAST 10 weeks. Maybe longer. I go back to the surgeon on Monday April 26 to have this cast removed and the foot evaluated then a new hard cast applied. Then just ... breath in and breath out. Take my time and do what ever they ask me to do. I am going to be a good patient and do what I am told. There is a danger of losing my foot if the healing does not progress due to my diabetes.
I have not seen the scoot, but friends tell me, it is just minor scuffs to all of the panels on the left side on . Windshield is broken. I want to ask if any of you have had scuffed panels repaired that turned out looking ok. I used the little paint touch up pens for some small scuffs last year and that looked like $#!~ to me. The scuffs to the panels now seem to be more serious. Professional fiberglass plastic repairman may have a process that covers the scuffs better. If not, I want to have the parts replaced entirely.
Thanks again guys, I am encouraged by your posts here. |

| Gary, when I had my ride into the ditch last November, it was scuffed what sounds to be similiar to yours. Every panel was replaced, not repaired. You should settle for nothing less than replacement of panels. The labor involved in repairing then painting is probably more than replacing anyway. Basically I've got all new tupperware and the bike looks great. My insurance premium went from $75/yr to $318/yr, but it was my fault. I'm going to have to talk to my agent about my premium more than quadrupaling. I just realized that while writing this. |

| Good day and many thanks again for all the prayers and well wishes. Other than a very severe case of "Get me out this cast!!!" I am doing fine. Debbie has been very patient with me and organizes my day before leaving for work. I go to surgeon Monday for new hard cast. Police called and got my statement. Other guy denies any responcibilty, so my insurance will probably be the payer. Won't take the pain away eitherway. I can't tell you how much it means to get a call, card or post here. All are so encouraging. If you have a friend or neighbor that is shut-in for some reason, call or visit them today. Ride over on the Silverwing and both of you will feel better. |
