There are several events in the Iron Butt Association, such as the 50CC (coast to coast in under 50 hours) and the 48-10 (48 states in 10 days), and several extreme variations, such as the 100CCC, and the 48-10 Extreme (including Alaska).

This years CBR starts in 9 days! A good friend from Maine is riding this year. Two riders and I from our group are going to ride the last leg (day 10) with him. We'll intercept them in Vt as they cross the lake and ride together to Portland. Should be a great time, I'll take plenty of pics and post a report.

[quote="masscoot"] Two riders and I from our group are going to ride the last leg (day 10) with him. Paul, I like your optimisim that your friend will still be there on the tenth day. I doubt if I could make it that far, but I don't know what is involved. I've visited a couple of the old coast to coast car rallies and it is interesting to see all the different entries. Hope your friend has a great ride.

The ride report, well it was fast as hell! The roads were beautiful and will be even more scenic in a couple of weeks when the leaves change color a bit more. Total miles for me over 3 days was 616. We intercepted our rider in Middlebury, VT and escorted him all the way to the finish line at the Atlantic ocean. I was riding sweep and taking pictures (somewhat dangerous I know) at mostly twice posted speed limits. I do not recommend people try this, nor do I endorse driving over the posted speed limits especially on deep rural backroads (there is usually a reason for them). My favorite memory is when our escort pointed to an approaching mountain. I thought, hmmm nice thanks Simon. Little did I know that we would be going up and over that as a "short cut" to trim a huge chunk of time. 7.6 miles long, rising to 2400 feet Lincoln Gap Road was exciting! Several signs that said "Pavemnet Ends". Here is the video, enjoy:
