| Officer....I parked my Silverwing right here, went in to Denny's, one half hour later, some ratch-n-fratch-n low life, So and So, stole the upper half of my triple tree. Look...the fork tubes are only held by two lower clamps! Somebody stole my upper clamps!!!!!!! "Officer Bently here....could you send the men in the white coats for Mr scooter rider...5150,Denny's on River Road." Is the Silverwing the only two wheeler in the world that has a steering stem with only lower fork clamps? Jeff. |

| Jeff, you MUST be from PA, talking about a 5150, something I used to write up several times a week for the 4 years I worked on the crisis team in the city. For folks who do not know, a 5150 is an involuntary commitment to a psychiatric ward for 72 hours observation due to danger to self, others, or inability to care for self. And no, I didn't wear a white coat, but I did drive a white van (and a grey one too). |

| From a leverage standpoint, it just doesn't look like it would be sufficient enough to handle the weight, and rake without something bending. O.K., I'm leaving Denny's after a nice visit with a 5150 "health care specialist", and would like to impress Nurse Cratchit who is looking particularily fetching. I grab the front brake, begin smoking the beejeebers out of my Schwarzenegger Sumitomo, when suddenly the Sumi says "No More"....and grabs the asphalt so hard, I swallow my mint, and send the front end of my Silverwing skyward. Time stands still. Nurse Cratchit declares that I'm her George Clooney, skateboarders are impressed, and those Nuns with "To go" sacks are coming up quick. In my mind my 400 plus pound Silverwing is about to re-enter earths orbit way to fast and come crashing down on my front wheel, bending the forks out so far they put the picture on the cover of the Rolling Stone...........gonna buy five copies for my mother. Grab a hoe.......yes that would be funny, but you run with that one......So your hoeing the weeds in your garden with your right hand high, and left hand mid handle. Now let go of your left hand, and continue. So here's a question.....has anyone wheelied their Silverwing.....and not had to buy new forks?? And one more........really.....can you wheelie a Silverwing? Jeff. |

| Even the spindly Nighthawk 250's forks are double clamped, and this bike weighs roughly less than half of my Silverwing. Have those Burgman riders bested us on this one? Redtailhawk has maybe brought up something.........are we weak-Knee'd? Tell me it aint so......Jeff |

| Hi Jeff, Look at it this way...8 years in production and NO failures. What do you think? I think the Honda Engineers did good on the one and Nurse Cratchit agrees. |

| Hi Jeff, I can certinley under stand the attraction to Nurse Cratchit. When I first met her, it was at swimming party one evening. What really caught my attension was the tattoo on her right forarm. Who would have thought.... Dallas 1956, A cowboy riding bucking bronko roping a Texas long horn bull and in color! That girl knows how to party!
Party On Nurse Cratchit!
Harley has had triple trees from what I remember. |

| A few differences between a motorcycle fork and a scooter. Foremost the leverage is a lot less on the scooter because of the small front wheel and lower head frame. Ditto the braking load, there's less leverage on the fork due to it's shorter length. Engineering wise a fork like most scooters use has proven to be of sufficient strength in the fact that scooter forks aren't bending in wholesale lots. The simpler fork also takes up less space in the design of the bike. Add to that that a heck of a lot of aircraft nose wheels are simple fork designs. None use a triple tree, not even a heavily loaded C17 slamming down on a rough dirt runway. Admittedly the aircraft nose wheels don't have braking loads but the do get very heavy side loads at initial touch down and have a lot of weight applied to them when the brakes of the aircraft cause weight transfer forward. A simpler proof is do you know anyone whose fork bent? |
