| Cath and I are starting from Federal Way. Taking the Point Defiance ferry to Vashon Island. Up Vashon to the North Ferry over to the Peninsula.
Up the Peninsula to Port Townsend and across to Whidbey Island. We'll decide then whether to go north to Deception Pass or south to the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry and then home.
Where you going to ride this weekend? |

| Sadly, this will be another weekend of document and drawing review and proofing. It is nice here in North AL and would be great to get out. My wife has had surgery on her feet and I will stay home and work and tend to her. |

| Spent a BEAUTIFUL southern fall morning riding for the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. West GA (E. Ala ) is about pretty this time of year. Had a nice lunch took a ride up through Kennesaw battlefield & taking a break before an evening run through Villa Rica. Sorry to hear about the Mrs. "Mr. Moderator" (that still tickles me!) hope she's back on her feet soon!! |

| We were in the car... but we took my dad to see his mother 250 miles up the road and back. Saw lots and lots of bikes and one tractor trailer on it's side. |

| I went up to the National Arboretum in Staffordshire for The Ride To The Wall:
http://www.thenma.org.uk/index.aspx
http://www.rttw.org/
The BBC suggested there were 10,000 people there. There were certainly a few thosand bikes of all shapes and sizes.
I'll post a link to photos later.
Fortunately, the weather was dry unlike my ride there from London on Friday and my return home today - in both directions it rained torrentially without stopping. I left the friends I stayed with in Birmingham at 10.00 this morning and arrived at the ferry in Dover at 15.40. It was raining when I landed in Calais and rained for most of the way home.
Still, it was a good trip and I enjoyed it very much. Total mileage - 639.63 |

| Typical grey Seattle day. Four ferry's between 0700 and 1615. ~230mi.

Seattle traffic on I-5 Southbound home was the typical insane nutjob freakshow it always is...

| I forgot to add that because of road-works just beyond my turn-off, the last 20 miles of my journey home was filtering through the tail-back. |

| Mike, Does that translate to "land splitting through the traffic backup?" If so, 20 miles is one hell of a backup |

| You've got it! 'Filtering' in the UK (where I come from), 'Lane-Splitting' in the US. Yes, a full 20 miles. The great thing here is that many, many drivers started motoring on mopeds so have a clue as to what riding a motorcycle is like. If they see you coming down the middle they move out of the way - even the truckers. If they don't, a flash of headlights alerts them and they move as soon as they can. In the UK the Police run 'BikeSafe' days or weekends for riders of all degrees of experience. I did mine in North London with the Metropolitan Police motorcycle cops - superb riders - who really want riders to develop riding skills. The Rule of Thumb there is to never filter if the traffic's moving at more than 45 MPH and never filter at more than 15 MPH above the speed of the traffic.
Although it was demanding and tiring, the 20 miles was not a problem. We do get long queues like that, especially at weekends, as so many Belgians have seaside homes that they visit whatever the weather and we live close to the main artery between the ports of Calais, Antwerp, Amsterdam and Rotterdam so there are zillions of 40-tonne lorries travelling through. |
