New Post email notification

Hi,

I figured out a way to get email notifications to all the members... if you gave an email address when you signed up. I will experiment with this for a few days and please tell me if you like it. If you do like it the first time please respond as soon as you can. It is a little more work for me on this end but I'm more than willing to give it a try.

When you receive an email; the subject line will be www.silverwing600.com New Post, and the link to the post. When you clink on the link it will take you right to the post. Thanks.

Hi Jeff, I received your email fine. The only hyperlink was in the subject heading which took me to the home page of the site here. There was a web address in the text of the email which was not marked as a hypertext link. So I just copied it and pasted into my browser, and it came here fine..

I just figured this out so I need to play with it more of course. I will put the link in the subject line and then maybe you can see if it appears as a link. Since we all use different kinds of operating systems I may not be able to have a link in the message body. I will send another notification out and maybe others can tell me if they received a link in the subject line. I get the link in my email though. Thanks.

Also for the rest of the forum, I'm still playing around with this so in a couple of days I will put a poll out to see if you like this or not. And also ask if things are ok. The software for these types of forums don't have email notification yet so I'm trying to do a work around. Thanks.

Emails came through OK.

Jeff, I got the two emails. First had the link in subject, not active. Also has link in email body. Also, not active. I could cut or copy and paste either. 2nd email had no body. Only link in subject. Again, not active. Can copy and paste in browser. Not sure what you are trying to set up. Over.

I think it depends on the type of browser you are using. I get hyperlinks when I go into my email through Internet Explorer, but not AOL. I will keep working on it since it is easier with hyperlinks.

I'm trying to set up a email Notifiation system so members can get an email when people post. For those that don't want these emails can go into your Profile and where you see "elect to receive newletters" just click on "No".

Jeff, there is a link at the bottom of the forum list " Start Watching this Forum" When that is activated, it changes to "Stop watching this topic". Is that different from what you are trying to create? I have been getting email notices from the very beginning on several topics. I really haven't paid attention to how many. I may have some turned on and others turned off. I will start paying attention more. This may be completely my imagination.

You are probably only getting emails to the topics you have replied too. This system doesn't have the "email notification" for every post made like the Yahoo groups do. I will play with this for a few more days and then put a "Poll" question out to see if the members like this. It may come to the point that most members don't feel this as being worth it. And if that is the case I will stop doing this then.

Yeah you are right. I have clicked on all of the forums that I want to keep up with and then clicked on the notice for the "Start watching this topic". I have done this without really knowing what I was doing. Being old and on medication has its advantages. You will be here some day.

I went into your "Profile" and change your setting so you can receive Newsletters. So you should have just received a "New Post" email with about 5 new posts. Thanks.
