| A mud flap from Yamaha Riva of about 1980 works great.
I have mine bolted on with three plastic bolts of approx 6mm.
Keeps front of machine and radiator area clean.
Of course should mud flap should have come standard----but I guess designers and sellers don't ride, so they don't know dirt problem.
A lot of dealers have junk boxes and is good place to look for flap.
The front of my scooter has remained very clean.

BTW, how are things in Tennessee? Are the bathrooms any cleaner now that all those damn summer tourists have disappeared? Have you replaced your Swing yet? Keep us up to date. |

| Hey John,
I just love to dig thru those discontiued item boxes at the dealerships. Some times a person can come up with some really great stuff for just penies on the dollar. |

| You have to accept a lower standard of things in the south---bathrooms are not well taken care of, their schools rank low---and with the recent snow, they sure don't know how to drive. Just facts. Try fast food.
There is problem purchasing new bike/scooter in 2011. First there are only old designs out there, want a new SilverWing, would be same as I have now just newer, maybe.
I normally do not buy left overs unless they are almost given away, not the case right now.
Many dealers that I have talked to have not ordered bikes to stock, so hard for me to buy one, it they ain't got it.
Thinking of another Suzuki Burgman 400 with ABS, 2011. but finding one and making a decent trade maybe a problem------of course there are plenty of new GoldWings in stock, but I don't feature myself on another barge---HD in spite of slow sales has prices padded here----and side car will be going away this year, so unless I lottery soon that is out.
Biggest problem with today's maxi scooters is the buffeting....can be real uncomfortable if you ride a lot. Trailer Bikers probably do not find it a problem.
To get away from buffeting there is Vespa (had 4 plus Ciao in past) I rode new 300----plenty fast, nose close to windshield, buffeting gone for the most part......but Italian parts service? Dealers folding all over the place and super high prices-----even oil filters can go as high as $18.00-----but do have nut and screw valve adj.
MySilverWing is about as good as SilverWing can be---calm wind management with new Givi Shield up to 60mph/Baker Air Wings/some other deflectors I made to keep pants from flapping/NEP throttle stop/givi rack and long serving box. I add no electric stuff. And of course it is on tires designed for scooter. Can go at least 50,000 with only minor maint.
But I like new stuff, too.

Kurt, It doesn't seem to matter 'which' South you are, somebody, somewhere always seems to be looking down on you.................. Usually for no good reason. |

| Yes, good point as well Kurt, Apologies from me to Lesley for being involved in misdirecting the thread. Lesley, I went down to the local 'spares' shop and got a generic Honda mud flap for about a quid. I needed to drill a couple of holes and used stainless steel bolts with nyloc nuts. All in all it took me about 5 minutes. I'd be happy to fit one for you if we ever get a chance to meet up. http://www.cmsnl.com/products/mud-guardfront_61114033000/ - Only problem with these guys is the postage charges from Holland to UK, if like me you have friends over there its very much cheaper, even if you do a Paypal transfer! |

| I've cut an extension from a 3 mm rubberplate, fixed it at the rear end of the fender so no more mud reach the radiator. |

| For everyone out there who's tighter than a goblins foreskin, you can make a perfectly good front mudflap from a piece of black plastic plant pot. Just cut away the base and front lip, then cut the remaining cone shape in half, and you're left with a piece of pre-curved material you can easily cut to any size you like. Just measure the inside dimensions of the mudguard and make a cardboard template of the size you want.
Using the template, transfer the shape onto the plastic, cut it out with scissors, and fix the mudflap to the inside of the mudguard with double sided adhesive pads. A good smear of black silicone sealant around the edges waterproofs everything, and thats about it.
It's cheap, effective, doesn't require any drilling, or any of that dirt under the fingernails stuff.
