| Hi,
Just thought i would say hello to everyone.
Been trying to get my dad onto a silverwing for a while now. Hes nearly 67 years old and he sometimes ride his BMW R1150GS. Way too heavy and tall for him now so trying to convert him to the top scoot.
Fingers crossed, a lot lighter, auto and so much lower to get the feet down.
PERFECT. |

| He'll dig it...lighter, lower COG, lots of storage, good power, good handling.
I'm a recent cruiser convert to the SWing. I ain't going back any time soon. It's a great machine. I'm 57.
What hangs people up is the stigma of riding a "scooter." I don't like that description of my bike...it's a full-sized automatic motorcycle capable of triple-digit speeds, freeway travel and long-distance touring. The key is to ride and don't worry what others think-I don't require affirmation from others regarding my machine. A little humility is a good thing-I'm happy that I'm on two wheels and that others are also...I don't care what they're riding.
Tell him to give it a try...might be an eye-opening experience.

| A friend of mine who rides a motorcycle once said to me "Don't make me say the 'S' word..."
I said "What 'S' word? Storage? Cause you got none." |

| Hi from a nearly 59 YO.
Your dad will love the 'Wing', the weight is deceiving, (until you have to push it backwards up hill, then it tells.) But - well, we ride the thing with the engine doing the work don't we.
The Wing is a great all rounder and I'm sure he will convert from the BM to the Wing with ease. |

| JamieB,
Your dad reminds me of me 3 years ago (I'm 73 now). I had a K1100LT that I just loved, until it got to the point that big tall BMW (with what seemed like 90% of it's 600+ lbs WAY UP HIGH) got the best of me and my ever diminishing strength and balance.
The trade for the Swing was one of the best of my (now) 43 years of riding. :flower: |

| I personally hate the term scooter, as well. That's the name for a cute Italian machine that will go 0 to 60 in two hours. I just call it my "bike." I can live with that. |

| Hi "JamieB", I became a brand new rider after turning 63 in Mar of '08, and the SWing was my first and only choice after researching the SWing web sites for a couple of years. The whole learning thing for me was uneventful and have thoroughly enjoyed "scooter" riding ever since, Harleys and other big bikes notwithstanding.
Anyway, with your father's previous experience, I can't see any reason why he shouldn't really like the SWing. Actually, the only "problem" of mention that I ever have (had) is because I don't ride as often as most of the members on this site do. As a consequence of my 5' 8" frame and short (29") inseam, I sometimes encounter a bit of inner thigh cramping when I first get on and have to 'walk' the bike along my gravel driveway to get to the main road.
That may be more info than some on here want to read about but, other than that, it's been a blast ! |
