| Does anyone know where to get a good price on helicoptor tape?
I would like to put some around my passenger handles to protect the paint. when I use my Motofizz camping bag on a trip.
Any suggestions? It is also, known as racing tape.

| all of these "helicopter" tapes seem to be for permanent usage. If you want to remove it after your trip , I think it would be very hard to do.
Go to your local M/C shop and ask if you can get some of the plastic they use on new bikes , which is easily removed later.
I don't know the name but they will. They put it on saddlebags and other places where scratches occur when customers sit on the bikes.

MaxB (who gets some from his dealer) Bob looked up a few places on line. He found 4" x 12' for about $28.00/roll. I don't necessarily need to remove it once it is on. I just want a clear tape so when I strap a bag, etc to the handles that the paint doesn't get scratched or discolored. Bob seemed to think it was removable. He wants to replace the protective film on his gas tank where his tank bag sits. Anyone, else use a similar product for this use? Thanks, Cathy |

Cathy Yes - but on a helicopter!! Used on the leading edge of rotor blades to either form a temp repair or to reduce erosion!!! Def an apply once and designed not to be removed easily!!!! |

| Doug is correct on this stuff - very hard to remove Blade Tape. Some very nasty chemicals required. |

| Oxford Products make various things for protecting paint:
http://www.oxprod.com/index.php?pg=3&action=dept&id=25&pid=0&p=
I have some of the plastic mesh blanket which is cut easily. In fact it's the same as some non-slip tray mats only thicker, one of which I put on the seat to protect it from the holdall I use for longer trips.
If I were you (and I know I'm not!) I'd get some of that, cut it into squares, wrap it round the bars and hold it in place with Velcro straps. |

| Like MikeO, plastic mesh blanket is what I've used to back my Givi T421 soft panniers/saddle bags with.
I cut sheets larger than the panniers, slots for the straps to go through, stuck the sheets on with black silicone sealant, then trimmed round the edges with scissors. Silicone sealant isn't the best adhesive for sticking the mesh sheets on with, but I used the panniers on my 650 Burgman for a Euro trip and the paintwork was unmarked.
I extended the pannier straps so they would go across the seat. I'm also going to do the same to the straps on a pair of unused Aerostich tank panniers, to make 'mini' panniers, they already have neoprene backing on them
I've just redone the Givi's with thicker plastic sheeting for 2011 and used double sided velcro tape, it works better on the plastic sheeting than on the pannier material, so I'm going to put a few dabs of multi purpose adhesive in the corners. |

| Very tough stuff, I used it on the the leading edges of my float plane's prop to keep down erosion from water spray and flying in rain. |

| Wrestling mat tape is clear, tough and much less pricey. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=wrestling+mat+tape&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=2246547911&ref=pd_sl_1259loykmy_e |

| Bob found the MSN report on ISC Surface Guard "Helicopter" Tape it was in the October 2008 issue.
In the article it states when the tape is in need of replacing you can simply peel it off and replace it with a new piece. No heat guns or solvents needed. The company that MSN bought samples from was www.FindTape.com. They used (OG) outdoor-grade.
A 4"x 12' roll goes for $28.50. it's not cheap but sounds like a good product if you want to protect your paint.
Thanks for your input. I will let you know how it turns out.
Cathy
