| Underneath the locking cap are two small phillips screws. Remove them, lift off the cover, take out the only thing inside which is the metal slilder that you open/close with the key. Now you can use it to open without a key, and if you go to sell it will only take about a minute to replace it. |

| So you fill up leaving the keys in the ignition, go inside to pay and some thieving scrote may ride off on it. Park up in a quiet place and some lowlife could steal your petrol, urinate in the tank, wreak havoc with your engine by dropping a few sugar lumps in the tank, set fire to your scooter etc. |

| Folks, whether you chose to do it or not is strictly up to you. I've clearly made my choice. It just annoys me to have to diddle with a key and in my 60+ years of riding, mostly without a locking gas cap, I've never wished I had one. It takes about a minute to do if you want too. Sorta like disabling the kick stand cut off; diff strokes for diff folks. |

| Having to use the ignition key to unlock the petrol cap means that you have to take the key out of the ignition rather than forgetting and leaving it in when you go to pay at the kiosk. Works for me. Totally agree with Meldrew's post.

| I bought a keyless gas cap and it saves me fiddling with the key. I have never left my keys in the ignition when leaving the bike (well, not yet anyway!!).

| What prompted me to mod the cap was, I had just come back from town on the Can Am where I had bought a keyless cap, but it didnt fit. Looking at the keyed one, I just had to take it apart to see what it made of.
And I rarely even take my key out of the ignition unless I'm at a big mall or maybe on a trip out of the area or somesuch. Just depends on what kind of area you happen to be in. |

| I bought my silver wing used and it had a non-original gas cap with a different key than the ignition. It annoyed me to have to carry 2 keys so I removed the locking piece a few years ago and I'm happy I did. I think if a vandal did see that there is a keyhole he probably wouldn't bother to try to take it off. In any case- who pays cash at the gas station anymore? I don't even get off the bike when i fill up at the gas pump- what is this 1962?

| Very few petrol stations have 'pay at the pump' pumps over here in UK. I may not pay by cash but I still have to go into the kiosk and pay by card, basically you are leaving the scooter unattended.

| I'll hold my hand up here and say I always pay cash for gas/petrol rather than use a credit or debit card, and it's annoying to go into a petrol station and have to wait for a queue of people to swipe their cards when handing over cash is far quicker. Here in the UK some petrol stations and supermarkets won't switch on the pumps until you have removed your helmet first to reveal your face for security cameras, they'll even tell you over a loudspeaker. That's because of some riders who favour your way of filling up often ride off without paying. As for the 1962 reference you've lost me there, I was a mere lad of 11 back then with short pants, a snake belt, and a bad haircut... and you weren't even born. |

| For me, I like the keyed cap. I take the key out of it and place them in my pocket while filling up. Since I added a locking cap to my F150, using a keyed cap is second nature. (Course, stuck for the week in Lubbock while my fiancee goes to training and no bike rentals which sucks.) |

| IIRC the official line in the UK is that you must dismount from two wheelers before filling with gas. It's the 'elf and safety people at work, something to do with fire risks, not that everyonre bothers ! |

You must carry cash living in a country that has a culture of tipping waitresses, bell hops, parking attendants, servers etc. We Brits are generally tighter than a goblins foreskin and hang on to our change. |

Cops - guns - sort of. Not all and not on the streets but they are out there in specialist vehicles. I believe it is easier to get trained armed officers on the streets quickly. The Tazer has made an appearance too!!! Not forgetting the CS spray. Don't know if you have the equivalent Stateside, we have 'Special Constables' in reality civilians in uniform with modified powers of arrest and certainly NO weapons. |

| My very first MOD was to remove the locking mechanism from my gas cap. I carry a can of vinegar in my glove box so if anyone ever pisses in my tank I can add the vinegar. I heard there is nothing like a SWing full of piss and vinegar! |

| As regards what I do with my change. Before I go to bed I put all my change other than fifty pence pieces into a jar. When the jar is full I count the money, take the money to the bank and put it into my account. I then send that amount of money to those parts of the world that are living in poverty, the last 'jar full' went to Arkansas. Cheers, |

| Last year Mrs M and I started saving our up the £2 coins from our change to treat ourselves to something on holiday. We spent the money saved on a couple of tickets to see "Jersey Boys" at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. I didn't realise until I was singing along that I knew so many of the Four Seasons songs, my falsetto isn't as good as it was though! |
