| Hello there and greetings from israel (jerusalem);
Turning 40 and wanted to get myself a silverwing as a birthday gift!
today I ride a innova (125 cc) so its a really big upgrade but i feel im ready for it. I test drove the 400 burgman but wasn't really impressed. I am aiming for the 600 cc because i really dont feel like upgrading within the next couple of years. i also test drove the forza - rode like a caddy!
the honda dealer will give me a one year warranty on the engine and other major parts, its a 2002 model with about 55k miles and I only have to add about $500 + my innova.
would be thankful to hear your 2 cents on my plans to upgrade, since i am a little concerned about the cost to keep it running (the innova is kinda cheap to run) and what is the life span of a silverwing?
thanks - avi

| Hello Avir,
Honda is a high standard product.
But... Maintenance by Honda dealer is not cheap. Ask the price at your dealer before... Maintenance is very cheap when you do it yourself.
Fuel...high... Mine (2001) is 5.6 liter each 100 km. ( about 42 miles per US gallon )
You can reach 100kmiles easy but also you can aspect a bad wheel bearing. Or a bad bearing in the fork head..very common.
Why you disliked the burgman 400? |

| Welcome Avir, I must say you are the first person who has not liked the Burgman 400 I can remember. I owned one and really loved it.
That said, the 'Wing' is a good machine if it has been looked after. Buying used always begs the question; why did the previous owner sell on?
The frame on the 'Wing' is sound, the engine reliable, I believe owners have recorded in excess of 120,000 miles. It's covered in plastic so expect scratches and dings for its year. check the centre stand, in my experience it does suffer from corrosion.
Hope you enjoy it as much as the majority on here have. Look forward to hearing about your riding exploits around Jerusalem. |

| i have 84750 miles on mine and still runs well. nothing has broken. i am old and ride moderately getting 52 to 62 mpg keeping it under 60. wind speed and direction make a difference. a big windshield does not decrease mileage. airflow is more streamlined with the bigger shield. don't try to beat every harley from the light and change the oil regularly. watch for cars and, in israel, the tanks and don't let them hit you and have a great series of rides. welcome to the forum |

| Thanks for all your replys.
I have a place (not a honda certifed but they do good work) that services my scooter, and the simple things like oil and filter changes i can do myself.
The burgman in my opinion was sort of weak for a 400. i felt that for its size it should have more power, it vibes alot at slow speeds, and when my mechanic told me how much it costs to have it serviced/fixed, my inner voice told me to stick to a honda.....
Tom, I will keep my eyes out for the tanks, lol lol...
