| I don't drive as much now days, but it seems that after a week of no use I have to jump the battery. The battery is only one year old and a good one, I hope. Yesterday it turned over but to weak to start, so I jumped it. The clock even needed to be reset. I also do not have the bulb in the trunk. Is this normal? I had the battery checked and they said it is fine, but I did not have the charging system checked.
I must ad that the wing sat for 6 months in Florida and was dead when I came down in October. I should of disconected the terminals or maybe put the battery tender on over summer.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Hello Spike,
Strange story....
-Who are "they" ? -How they did the check of the battery?
When your bike was there... which kind of technician do not check the charging system??? It only needs 15 seconds.
So... my opinion...
-Check the battery the right way. Fully charged and testing during load.
-Check charging system with engine running and a good battery is mounted. Silverwing >>> idle, rpm's~ 1100 , 14 Volts or more.
- Check for current leak when ignition key is off.
A good motor technician/dealer is equipped for those checks.
And additional questions... - Start your engine very quick? - Are your trips long enough for keeping the battery in condition?
Eddy

| I stopped at an auto parts store and he hooked up a tester and said battery Ok. Yes I often do not drive far, I might need to put the battery tender on when not in use.
The battery is ytz 12s Yuasa Battery, purchase date 2/24/9, a little older than I recalled, but should still be good. |

| I agree with Terry about this. Mine lasted 4 years and did the exact thing that yours is doing know. It may have lasted that extra year since I road alot and my drive to work was at least 22 miles. I didn't use a tender either but I was putting close to 10,000 miles a year on my SWing. I don't ride as much now but still get out on it. I would jump start mine too and go for a long ride and it would be good for a day or 2, but that was all.
I would just re-verify if the system is re-charging it. I'm not sure how to do that exactly but others here could probably tell you how. |

| Terry,
Thanks for that. I didn't know if you had to take a reading at another location to verify what is being cranked out. Thanks for the info. |

| Before you replace it, put a slow over night charge on it and see if it acts better. Take the battery inside when you are not going to run the scooter for an extended period of time.
