That's because I frequent other scooter forums much more often. (Honda Reflex and other general scooter forums) And, I must have forgotten this one shortly after I signed up because my Silverwing "Jester" got rear ended by a cager and it languished in the garage in disarray until just about a month ago. The S-wing is up and running now so I am back. I forgot I was even signed up. When I tried joining recently, I discovered that I was already a member. Took a bit of digging through stuff to until I could find my username and PW. So then I didn't bother with an intro or to even look because I assumed I had already done so as I have done with all the other forums I've joined. Simply human error. |

| Purely and simply because it is bad manners NOT to introduce oneself before getting involved; just because this is a forum on the internet doesn't mean that good manners can be dispensed with. Would you walk into a room and barge into conversations before introducing yourself? I sincerely hope not!
I venture to suggest that Meldrew speaks for many of us - though not all - and that the former are grateful for his 'up-frontness'.
There is no excuse for not knowing what is expected here; it's written clearly under the picture at the top of the page......'a sign of courtesy'. |

I got banned for defending myself last time. I don't think Colin B needs to defend me, but you are rather sensitive about the whole lalee/larry thing. Wasn't the Darkside car tyre section originally set up because you were forever posting about car tyres and Gold Wings on the forum and were quite vocal about any criticism you received, so the Darkside became a separate section. |

| larryinseattle was banned for sniping at other memmbers and generally causing unrest, not for defending himself.
Meldrew expresses in 'no frills' terms what many of us think especially about Introductions. No he does not need defending but an occasional show of support doesn't come amiss.
I suggest this particular spat needs to come to a very abrupt halt. |

| Bill set up the Darkside section to try to keep all the trouble out of the main forum. It seems people like to go 'back and forth' on whether or not a bike should have car tires. But if people can't be civil in the main forum I don't see why we mods would give them access to the 'darkside' section just to cause trouble there. Let's just stop the snide comments about this issue.

| Hello all: I am currently a SWing darksider, for 25k miles now. I am seeking opinions on a new rear tire, and am requesting admission to this sub-forum. I've owned my '02 since '10, and put the aforementioned 25k miles on it in those 4 years. Love this bike, as I did my '05 Reflex before this one. I am from Eastern PA, and roam between Berks county & mid-Bucks/Montco daily. Hence, the need for a new tire. So...can I please access the darkside forum? |

| Welcome to the forum. Your name sounds familiar. Perhaps from another forum. But, never the less...
I had a Sumitomo darkside tire on my '03 for 40,000 miles. There was still thousands of miles of tread left when I changed it because of the tread wear on the "sidewall". Unfortunately I was unable to get any one to replace a new Sumitomo without tearing the bead --not even the, very experienced, guy who mounted my original darkside.
I'm all in favor of darkside tires, especially if you are going to do big miles. Regretably I've had to revert to regular scoot tires. I'd go back if I knew where to get a Sumitomo mounted by a competent shop.
That said, even though I rode The Dragon with the Sumitomo and full load of travel gear, a regular scoot tire handles better in the twisties than a darkside.

I was surprised to see my "Number of posts: 1". I could have sworn that I'd posted to this forum before. Either this count gets periodically scrubbed or I am mistaken, which I don't believe I am. That is why I believe my moniker seems familiar to you...it SHOULD :-). Seeing that you were a fellow PA rider, I remember that fact from my early days here. But I'm rambling... Anyways, thanks for the re-welcome! So...when do I get permission to post in the Darkside forum?? I just tried & was rebuffed. |

| 1. Car tire advocates---how many have mounted the tire on rim themselves?---there is bead lack of fit from get go. SAE paper on that.
2. Lack of experience for me---1956 I purchased a HD WLA with 18 inch junk yard care tires=not rideable. With MC tires ok
3. 1980's, Germany, MZ Sidecar outfit, 15" inch car tire from 2CV, outset spokes, special rim for car tire----fine Sidecar, idea for 2CV tire=long life----when considering expense of the conversion---sticking with cheap bike tires might have been cheaper in long run. Bike not easy to ride solo and against the law, insurance not good in accident.
Boss Hog does come with Car rear tire .....but are they noted for fine handling?
I think scooters are better with scooter tires a are motorcycles with mc tires. My 2 cents.

It's been explained to you in your other post why, and if you read the above posts you can see an example of why. Anyone who wants to join the darkside forum is welcome to join, you just have to ask. It's really like joining another forum. Why would it be unfair? I don't understand why you feel it's unfair. |

Why would it be unfair? I don't understand why you feel it's unfair. Maybe it is not unfair but it is a PIA if you do a search in the main forum topics and come up with the need to post elsewhere and get approved. At the very least you should be able to read the posts. I understand the reason - too much arguing over a personal choice. Like government republicans and democrats. (I am forming a new party - Centrist - try it and if it works keep it, otherwise trash it and try something else... and separate church and state.) |
