| I changed my mind on a Car (Darkside) tire section. I have notice that people keep attacking others ... potentially (in my opinion) to stop all Darkside tire discussions.
I even went one step further, to create a private sub-section which is only visible by a special group permission ... to allow others to freely ask/answer questions based on experiences and not perceptions.
When I have time, I will create individual topics with links to the original Car (Darkside) tire topics.
Which will allow us to start discussions and questions.

| I liked your approach. I thought your original idea was a good one. Invitation only forum with discussion regarding the use of them rather than the debate.
I belong to two other motorcycle forums and when a darkside thread starts, only the people who are interested in the information share their experience and there is always active question and answer posts.
This forum has some dead set naysayers who can't stand the word and won't allow the subject matter to be discussed.
I say state the rules and if a post is negative, delete it.

| I agree with Larryinseattle I don't like the put downs that the Dsiders get from uninformed Know it alls. Keep them out of DS topics They don't know and have no xpereance riding a CT. I am a good rider and will be darksiding soon. Keep up the good work. |

| One way to handle it might be to move all current darkside threads to the private sub-forum.
Then make a darkside public forum that has one sticky (which embolds the topic) and is otherwise closed. That sticky says:
"Darkside tire discussion is only available in a private forum. Public forum darkside discussions will be deleted. Access is by request only and for the mutual support of those interested. For access to the private forum PM admin for admission."
Their will be those that whine about freedom of speech and press and all that. They need to understand that forums are privately run and subject to the rules of the forum owner. If they are not supportive of the practice they are not allowed in. |

| I say an open forum with people refraining from personal attacks is the best. Sharing experience on any motorcycle subject should be done with some tack and manners. I mean we do not allow foul language, why allow bullying? |

Best for whom Larry? There are 3 sides to every story on a forum. Pro, Con, and Mod. Understand that the more conflict their is on the forum the more Mods have to work to police. There is a point where Mods (and forum owners) say ENOUGH. When the amount of work necessary to police the forum exceeds the patience the mods have, either the subject is deleted, or people are banned, and that leads to bad blood and people quitting that might otherwise contribute in other ways. There are many ways to stop bullying. All have consequences. My opinion is that my suggestion will result in the least consequences, as it removes the negativity from the board without having to ban anyone. It doesn't matter the way you or I think things "should be" in this world. What matters is the way they are. This is what we must make decisions on. |

I belong to other forums that just do not allow others to belittle or demean others and it is the culture of the forum.... the moderator does not have to do that. |

And who do you think it is that "just do not allow others..." ? When people do what is not allowed, who do you think steps in? Once again you only see the end user side of the forum. You don't know how often mods step in before that stuff gets to you. It is in an ideal world the culture of this forum too. That is the way the owner and mods like it. But as you can see it happens anyway. Dan |

| For myself, a private section is something like I imagine a gated community is; a group of people with like minds and life styles. Everyone co-operates with keeping an agreed upon type of behavior and environment. All the riff-raff is kept at bay and not allowed to intrude on the peaceful setting. However, I can put up with a lot of crap before I push back. I put up with it often out there in the web world where nay-sayers lie in wait around almost every forum for even a hint of mention about car tire/oil type use. 33 years practice of working with the mentally ill has a way of conditioning one to set aside reacting negatively to personal assaults (physical assaults too!) and being able to recognize true craziness from a mile away. After all, mostly they can't help it. And though they initially may not recognize the need for help, kindhearted help almost always works best. I mean if you really needed help with something, how helpful do you think a person would be perceived if they just screamed at you or bullied you and insisted on imposing their will on you? True indeed; not much. What gets under my skin is intentional stupidity. Not ignorance....Ignorance means they just don't know any better and are merely acting on what little they do know or think they know. Stupidity means they do know or should know better but refuse to accept or acknowledge logic and factual evidence and act in a blatantly contradictory way in spite of being given the pertinent information and shown the truth of the matter. Yeah, I can put up with the abject lunacy out there, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. It's nice to have a place to put up my feet and enjoy the breeze without all the noise. | I am considering going to the dark side. The Diablo was great but slipped in grass and is bald after 8000 miles.
Guys, Making the Darkside discussion private, restricted etc. is just plain wrong. There are Darkside discussions on other forums (even for the Yamaha FJR1300 that requires a special mod to the bike.) Keeping this discussion secret is just plain silly and a dis-service to the forum members.
What I would like to see is one thread listing what brands / models of tires fit, another on peoples experience with darksides and a third with the anti / pro arguments. |

| It's not a matter of making the darkside discussion secret. It's to focus the discussion with those who a genuinely interested in the matter rather than to have lots of misinformed and hostile opinion posts which detract from the actual discussion regarding the tires.
I hope I said that right.
No one has excluded you from that discussion. Just sign up.

What I would like to see is one thread listing what brands / models of tires fit, another on peoples experience with darksides and a third with the anti / pro arguments. The problem is with the non-believers, uninitiated, misinformed, close minded, anti-darksiders.... whatever you want to call them. While we, the folks interested in car tire use try to have a calm informative exchange about aspects of using car tires, those "others" interfere with their snide, interfering, offensive, blind, uninformed, illogical and unwanted opinions and whatever other kind of nasty trollish remarks and thread hijacking and make it unnecessarily difficult. It would be fine to have a more open subforum and threads if folks would behave. But they don't and won't; probably because they can't. Even if a sticky was posted about a confined area where ALL darkside debate or for that matter, oil choice debates are to be conducted, it would be virtually ignored. Even IF there was a more open subforum to debate the darkside practice in, unpleasant conflicts would still show up elsewhere whenever the subject arises. (as it usually still does.) Even now, when kindly asked that anti-darksiders don't interfere while a question is asked of those that do use a car tire, a$$holes interject and sling sh!t anyway.... Happens almost every time. So as to not have to put up with the BS, we have a private place to discuss our chosen practice without interference. The ideas exchanged there come from those that have actual experience and KNOW about car tire use or those that truly WANT to know. It's just better that way. I can debate with the best of them, (the worst too) but I'd rather not if it can be avoided. It usually degenerates into name calling and other unpleasantness. (most usually by the unenlightened anti-darksiders) Just watch as this thread gets attacked and you'll see and understand what I mean. >EDIT< Well, not as likely to get this thread attacked here being in a more protected milieu, but certainly can and does outside of here.

| So with all the confusion about which thread is which... where do I ask:
Will a 175/70R13 tire work on the Swing?
I am worried it is too tall for the wheel well. I am having a really hard time finding the Sumitomo 165/70R13. I found some other brands on line like Raptis at CARID.com but locally Mr. Tire has a bunch of 175/70R13 options.

| I have 51k kl of DS riding with a 155 70 13 raptice hercules tire . A 175 70 13 will fit the swing but longer legs is required to flat foot the swing which I don't have ,so the 155 70 13 is my choice. I replace mine at 42k kl installed to my swing Trigg trike . The Raptice tire is the onlyone that I could find in that tire size.To chose a DS tire IMO,it's best to chose one that is as close to a MC tire size, that will not change the riding feel of your swing. To the nay sayers Please do not comment on my post ( I have heard it all before) |

Dang! I could have sworn I saw where somebody said they have used or are using a 175/70R13. (NO, I know I did) But I can't find it now and it may have been on another forum. Though even making cursory searches elsewhere, I still can't seem to find it. It will take some digging but I believe I can eventually find it. I do have a rear rim with a 175/70R13 Michelin Destiny mounted but have not yet tried putting it on my bike. Mainly because it looks too tall & wide to me too. Maybe I should try it since I'm not doing much else around here lately. If I do, then I will certainly report back on it. (a test ride would be in order too in that case) I was thinking of selling the rear wheel with the 175/70R13 tire, but if it fits and works then I may just keep it after all. (though I'm pretty sure it would obviate the ABS functionality) |
