| Hello to the forum! I'm from Portland, OR and just bought a 2007 SWing on Monday (6/18). It is my first motorized 2-wheeled vehicle, and I'm very pleased with it. Figured the next step was joining a forum, so here I am. Nice little place y'all have here--think I'll kick off my boots and stay a while. |

Since you asked--I'm from Oregon, and the mascots of our two universities are the Ducks (U of O) and the Beavers (OSU). I have no allegiance to either, but I support both. Therefore, I am a platypus (the freakish egg-laying mammal that appears to be a hybrid of the two). Plus, my kids and I love Phineas and Ferb, and Perry rules. - carlosw wrote:

The only one I've taken is now my avatar. I like the way the camera flash came off the reflectors in the twilight darkness. |

| The male platypus is also the only venomous mammal. They keep their eyes wide shut when hunting, using electro sensing abilities in the "bill"
freakish is an understatement.
They are however bloody useless at riding bikes with those short webbed legs |

| Hey Chris,
Welcome to the site and congrats on your new SWing. I also like Phineas and Ferb, and watch it with my daughter. And Perry is cool. If you have any questions I'm sure someone here will be able to help you out. And if you do your own maintenance we have a "Pictorial" section to help you out. Post some pics of Portland or the area if you get a chance. I haven't been up there yet but I hear it is very scenic. |

| Chris, from Chicago. Beautiful city you live in. I was out there in 2008. Got to go down the coast and up through Crater Lake. I was in a car. Someday I would like to get out there on my Swing. Enjoy the forum. |

| One thing I would recommend if you haven't already done it is to take your local MSF Basic Rider Course. http://msf-usa.org/index_new.cfm?pagename=ridercourse%20info&content=C55DBB87-A0CC-53D5-64D098C9870C8030&referer=MSF%20RiderCourses You may think you don't need it as the Swing is "just" a scooter but really, you're riding an automatic motorcycle that can do 100mph! The ground doesn't get any softer just because you don't have a clutch Taking the course now when you are just starting will help you develop the proper riding skills and more importantly, avoid bad behaviors before they become hard to forget. Lots of states have low cost classes as well but you'll need to look into that yourself and see what you have to do to register, they fill up FAST in IL! |

Actually, it's becoming a requirement in OR to take Basic Rider Training to obtain your endorsement. It's already mandatory for anyone under 40, next year it'll be anyone under 50, and by 2015 it's required for everyone. I did my BRT and got my endorsement last summer, and waited a full year before finding a machine I wanted. Now I'm talking to my wife about getting her into a course, and eventually getting her a SWing of her own. |
