I did a little research on the center of gravity and the box on the back of the bike(scoot). Well during my training I learned that there is center of gravity starting at the head of the rider extending out in a triangle shape. This is the area to carry and extra items, bags etc. I tried the theory with an empty box and found that turning especially from dead stop and start situation the scooter was harder to startmout on. When tried without the attached box the turn was smooth as glass. Rider experience may come into play, but without the box the bike(scooter) does better. The swing is a well balanced machine has designed but with the box it the box throws that balance off somewhat.

How are steering or counter-steering?? The SWing responds differently whether I steer or counter-steer. |

When I get into the friction point I turn the handle bars and accerlate into the turn.

Some heavier bar end weights would counteract the effect of carrying a topbox.

Yes that is true, but, I am going to keep extra loads in the triangle system. Such has backpacks and tank bags. www.silverwingstuff.com

Having ridden a Helix the past 4 years, I find that the silverwing is a nicely balanced machine. The Helix is light up top which was nice for U.S. 129 and tight traffic and less nice for high speed riding and wind. While I can't whip the swing around quite like the Helix, It moves in a more controlled and predicatable manner due to having more weight up top. As a result, I feel very confident with it in a corner and can push it a little more than I could with the Helix. It is amazing how much grip the swing has in the corners. The main disadvantage is that when I come to a stop, it takes a little more effort to balance than it did the Helix. This is magnified a even more with a rider, gear, and saddle bags added to the mix. I do notice added weight while riding at speed on the swing mainly if I am cornering, but it is not a major thing to have to deal with.

After watching (and dodging) my husband's bag as it came sailing off the back of his bike this weekend (he was in the lead), I'm committed to packing as efficiently as possible, keeping all my junk in the trunk.
