| Though new to this site, I'm not new to SWings! I have owned my '06 for about 4 years now, bought it used from a gentleman in the Raleigh/Durham NC area. I started with scooters over 12 years ago (a 250 cc Honda Elite), got a "real motorcycle (Suzuki VStrom 650), after 4 or so years with that, decided scooters are more "me". Had a Yamaha Majesty for a while, but when the engine blew up, my DH told me if I wanted to keep riding, I just needed to get "the best" - the Silverwing, which was what I really wanted, but thought too expensive. Found a great deal used, and have been smiling ever since! I don't see ever wanting something else.
Not way crazy on the farkling. I have added headlight and brakelight modulators, a power plug in the glove box, a GPS mount, a RAM cupholder, sheepskin seat cover, a throttle rocker, mirror extenders, and a Givi windshield (though looking hard at going with a MadStad ASAP). My brother also made me a custom welded flag mount for PGR missions, for 2 12x18 flags. I run on Metzler tires, and commute most days to my Govt job, designing and building facilities for the US Marine Corps (I am way proud of this, LOVE my client!)
Me - a tall female, 52, ATTGATT, Patriot Guard Rider. I teach Sunday School, knit, and go for long rides whenever I can. The longer the better. Been as far south as Alabama, as far north as NW Pennsylvania. Live in the flatlands, long term goal is to live where I can find curves and hills to ride every day. I would love to have the time and money to just get on my scooter and ride all the way across the entire US. I have done 800 mile days, and could do them consistently, the scooter is that comfortable for me (the mc not so much).
I hope to get good info here and meet up with some other scooter lovers! I write for a local mc website, but often get no respect from the mostly sportbike/Harley groups around this area. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to, though. I've been sneered at too many times by "real motorcycle riders" - with their rides up on trailers. Favorite rides - the North Georgia mountains, Blue Ridge, and anywhere there is great Barbecue! |

| My bro lives in Canton, GA. Been to Huntsville with him! The Unclaimed Baggage place - not far eat of Huntsville - is a place we go to every time I visit him!
BTW - he was a rabid BMW rider (Airhead). Then I got him to looking at scooters. He ended up with a Helix. Then he got an ST1300. Bwaaaaahahaha. I "turned" him! |

| Welcome to the site. I am sure that you will enjoy being a part of it.
There are many here who rode other bike types and then settled for the practicality and enjoyment of scooters.
I started with a scooter and 50 years later ended up back on a scooter. My wife got her license 4 years ago on an Elite and now rides a Reflex. She is happy with her steed.
I recall the 60's advertisement "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". I believe that it is true.
Enjoy! |

| Welcome Ramblin, glad your here. I have always loved riding two wheels regardless whether it's a scooter, motorcycle or trike. I cut my teeth on and old AllState Compact and have come full circle to the Swing scooter, albeit a much more powerful and attractive ride. I hope your stay is productive and fun!

| Welcome to the site and hope you enjoy it. The SWing is a great bike that will take you anywhere in comfort. Please make sure you design the buildings for the Marines so they have better buildings that I had. 2 guys were wrestling in the barracks once, built before WW1 and on stilts, and fell through the floor. This was in early '77. Have you thought about the Givi Adjustable screen? I have had most of the screens and I think it is by far the best. IMO. Welcome. |

| Ramblin, from Chicago. You will enjoy the good info, people, stories and fun on this forum. There are a few members who enjoy ranting on certain subjects. But, hey it makes it interesting. Ride safe. |

| Hi "Red" !! And welcome from NE Kansas! Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't you also on the .org or the yahoo site at one time or another?? Been a long time since I've visited those sites but your 'handle' sure looks familiar. At any rate, welcome to this site... you're certainly going to enjoy it. |

| Hey DickO, You may not want to mention peoples names who visit this site and the .org site. The owner over there has banned quite a few people here to used to be members there. When I started this site I would encourage all of us SWing riders to all of the SWing sites, but if you mention this site on his site he will warn you and then ban you. |

What a pity... I've been a member of all 3 major sites (IMHO) at one time or another to varying degrees. Never ran into that problem myself and I know I must have referenced the ones I mentioned above at one time or another. So, does the 'admin' (or owner or whatever he is) come over here and monitor names??? I've really never heard of such rubbish. If we can't mention a "name" then the whole system is defunct. |

| Hi "Red" and welcome! I'm definitely of the attitude that it's not what you ride, nor even how often, but simply THAT you ride. While I don't ride a Swing anymore, I'll ride with someone who's riding one any day. When I was in Scottsdale, I waved at quite a few scooters and I was on a big Victory at the time. |

| Dick,
Yes he did monitor this site a while back but not sure if he still does. I know he went as far as blocked my IP address and I couldn't even pull his site up on my computer at home. It is too bad that he is like this and I will never understand why.
Red,
What is the site you write for? Is it something that is on the net? Just curious if you have wrote about the Swing very much. |

| I write for a local motorcycle site here in the Tidewater Area - BikereNews. The owner/editor/head water boy (Phil) is a sport bike rider (MV Augusta), and there are all kinds of contributors, with all kinds of motorcycles. Writing on and off for many years now (recently on again), I've written about all the two wheelers I rode, especially the scooters (3 of my 4 motorcycles have been scooters!). I consider the Silverwing to be the ultimate ride for me, so I do definitely write about it. I write about my mundane riding, my longer trips to PA and GA, etc. And then I write about all kinds of random things. This week's article is about "equal time" for female riders, since Phil constantly puts up pics of bikini-clad biker babes on his "G-rated" site. My article is about Hunks on Motorcycles. And now EVERYONE (not just the guys) might be checking it out! I do ramble a lot, but have written some pretty good articles over the years about scooters, and riding, and even garage parties with my bro in GA. I plan an article soon about my "farkles", since people always ask about them, especially my flag rack for PGR escort missions! I have been able to test-ride a lot of scooters over the years as well ,including both the Bergmans, owned a Majesty, and test-rode Vespas, Piaggios, and pretty much all the Hondas, from 49 cc's on up. I love scooters, and the Swing best of all. And riding weather is getting better and better by the day now! This is my favorite time of year - to get back more into riding again.
I regret I never found this site sooner. I was on another ( THE other, I guess) Silverwing site, but it was never very active. Now I can see the action was all over here! My brother also belongs to a very active ST1300 site, and I have a friend who is very involved with a PC800 site, so I always wondered where all the cool SWing riders were! I knew they were out there, when I am down in the Atlanta area, I always see several while out riding. Around here, not so much.
I am really glad to finally find this site! I look forward to exploring here, there is so much I hardly know where to start! |
