| I'm going to hang around in chat for a couple of hours and see if anyone shows up. |

| Gyro,
Had I seen this earlier I would of given it a go. Tried a couple of times but no success. Don't no why? One of these days.

Cathy One of the problems with a lot of chat rooms is lack of sound notifications when someone logs in. Example from last night: Gyro logs into the empty chat room at the bottom of the main page, then goes back to reading the forums, checking in periodically. Timeout interval for inactivity is brief, and constantly boots Gyro out. Navigating away from the front page of the forums to read something changes chat status to "away" or logs out. JeffR comes in to chat, but Gyro is "away." There are no sound notifications to let Gyro know JeffR entered the chat room, even though Gyro is just reading while waiting to see if anyone else joins chat. JeffR gets bored waiting and logs out. Gyro checks back in too late. *** People trickle in to a chat room one at a time, get bored and leave. The timeout/logout settings make it difficult for someone to "park" in the chatroom and wait for others to arrive. Lack of sound notifications makes it difficult to monitor the chat room without just sitting and waiting, staring at a blank chat window. |

| Thanks Gyro for the explanation of how the chat room works. I wasn't sure, never was in one before. |

They all work a little differently, but this one seems similar to some others I've been on. Sound notifications are really handy. I haven't discovered anything that suggests this chat room has the sound notifications. |

| Hi,
I went behind the scenes to see if there is a "sound notification" for chat box and there isn't. I guess this platform doesn't offer sound in the chat box feature. It is too bad it is like this. I have used the chatbox when I first started this forum and I chatted quite a few times with many people but it doesn't seem as popular as I thought it would've been.
Maybe we can try for those who want to chat to be on this site at the top of the hour. This way we wouldn't have to set times but just come on the site at the top of the hour and see if anyone wants to chat.
Sorry Gyro, but I wasn't planning on being on for very long when I did sign on. I try to sign on a quite a few times a day, or stay signed on, to make sure there isn't spam or fights going on. |

| That's really too bad about the lack of sound notifications. One other forum and a private Facebook group i belong to both have that feature. It's really nice to log on, then go browse other pages or websites and hear a "ding" or musical note when someone else logs in or posts a comment.

Gyro, there seems to be a little bit of activity lately. Maybe you started something. Of course a lot of the activity is waking up grouchy old gits. |

| The Chatroom has hardly been used for the vast majority of my time on this forum, apart from a few simple souls who log on and think they at a seance... "Is anybody there? A few months ago I started going there occasionally just to leave a :sleep:there, because at 96 that's exciting! Then after a few times I'd go there to leave my mark and there'd be messages from strange folk who are registered on this forum and never heard of going on about their oil leaks and other stuff. Why they'd chosen to go down there to the twilight zone I've no idea. Lately it seems the Chatroom has been rediscovered again by the regular forum members although it seems a slow and tedious way to chat I think I preferred it when just the weirdos hung out there. |

| TBH,forum chatrooms never seem to work well to me,a better (possibly) system is an on forum thread for general "chit chat" that is auto-pruned every ?? hours/posts. |

| Is that so you'll know the right time to get your tackle out? |

| It would be nice if this site was like the RV site im a member of. When someone is logged on there you can tell by a green light next to their avatar. That way if someone is chatty they would know who is and who isnt available! Just sayin..... |
