Can any one tell me what size socket I need for the steering stem nut. It # 1 in the part detail.  Thank you.

12 point 32 mm deep well socket and make sure it is deep enough I could not find a 32 mm  12 point deep well socket deep enough so I bought 2 deep well sockets and I cut the top half of one socket with a chop saw do to the hardness and I tack welded the 2nd socket to the cut off first socket that made it deep enough. I could find a lot of 6 point deep well sockets that was deep enough but a 6 point will not fit the nut. I got a cheep analog fish scale from Wal-Mart to set the pre load . I used the spanner wrench that was in my silverwing tool kit.

Thank You. I just got back from Wal-Mart with a Fish scale. That about what I was thinking doing with the socket or benting a box wrench to right angle. A 6 point won't work but 12 point will!

Again Think You

Yes a 12 point socket only when you see the nut you will see why . I got the 2 sockets from Northern Tool here in Minnesota for $5.99 each if you use a bent box wrench you can not use a tork wrench on the nut.
