| While replacing old battery with new battery, I accidentally attached the leads to the WING with reversed polarity. (go ahead, laugh...) There was a little spark (like a static electricity spark).
I fixed the wire polarity, so everything is hooked up right. However, no put the key in and NOTHING. No dashboard lights, no headlight, no tail light, no sound of the fuel pump, nothing. Total dark.
So... I checked all the fuses that are under the seat (two little fuse blocks?) and all the fuses are fine. I put a multimeter on the new battery, it is still producing about 13.7 V. I figure if it was just a weak battery I would at least get some lights on the bike (but dim). So it has to be something on the bike that I broke.
What else is there to check?
-Ben. |

| Mr. B, You are 100% correct. It is that fuse that blew, and that was it. I love Honda. Not only did Honda predict my stupidity, and safeguard me against it. But they kindly placed a spare fuse right there for me to use. And they didn't even put a "U DUMB a**" sticker next to it. Anyway, if anybody else accidently reverses the polarity of their battery, or they experience the symptom of turning the ignition key and getting no activity at all (as if you didn't turn the key on). Then check that main fuse. Thanks, -Ben. |

| Ben,
Thanks for the update and glad it wasn't worse. Sometimes people will have a problem and then fix it, but not tell anyone what they did. Thanks. |

| Dennis gave you all you need to know to fix it, and there is even a fuse for you to use there. I would use a new fuse instead though so you still have a spare if you get stuck away from home. And no need to laugh at you, we all make mistakes.
I was not fast enough, two posts while I typed but I'm not going retype a new post. Glad you got it fixed. |

| A proper introduction followed by a problem on a separate thread. A reply that cured the problem and an acknowledgement of the cure. This is refreshing. Nice job Ben and Dennis. What will Meldrew rant about? |
