| Hi folks
I have a 7 year old SW with 6000 miles on it. My first big scooter and loving it. However I notice that I hear a loud whine when I am decelerating from speeds above around 45 mph. I don't experience any whining noise when I take off, as some have mentioned on this forum. It's just when I decelerate, and not at low speeds. What I'd like to know is, is this normal for a scooter or is this an indication That something may be wrong with the bike. As this is my first scooter and I don't know anyone else with a large scooter, I don't know whether this is normal. No problem with any other aspect of the bike, and although this doesn't affect performance in any way, I do think it's a little loud to be normal. The bike will be going in for service soon (not to Honda dealer) - is there anything that I can ask the mech to check.
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks everyone Martyn |

| I get that as well,I think it is caused by the drivebelt flexing & rubbing on the cover ... At 6000 miles you are well below the replacement mileage (16,000(mine is 700 miles overdue) but IIRC there is also a 2 year age limit as well,so maybe this is a sign of degradation This is only my surmise, other more experienced owners may have more positive knowledge. |

| Purchased my 2002 SW used with 8k miles in 2009 - it had the whine then when releasing the accelerator and riding down on engine braking. It now has almost 20k and there is no change in the sound or intensity. Have replaced the belt at 12k and added Dr Pulley sliders last year and it had no effect - always thought it was more of a "gear" whine than the belt rubbing but just my take. Does anyone on the Forum "not" have a whine on engine braking?

| Thanks for the replies guys. I can imagine that some like the noise but I don't. Was thinking of changing the belt to see if it helped but from what you say Rick that wouldn't do anything.
Would be interested in knowing if anyone doesn't have the whine and whether they have done anything that could have prevented it.
Thanks again. |

| No deceleration whine on the old 2006 or her present 2009. Routine maintenance with an annual cleaning of the belt case and breather. |

| I am with RickV on this one. I always hear it especially during long downhill engine braking. |
