| Guys,
I have a 2009 SWT.
The braking system is exactly the same as the Silverwing sold in the US.
I bought it second hand and I was trying this week to have a closer look at both my rear brake pad and the parking brake pad.
I tried to remove them and the fasterner holding the pad/calider (a 5.5 BTR) seems to ''glued''
Impossible to remove it.
A quick call to Honda, and the guy told me that those bolts are always mounted with a special ''grease'' to avoid them to ''solder''
A couple of question here:
1) Can you confirm the BTR is 5.5mm not 5mm? I have found contradective information on the internet and the Shop manual that I have is in Italian (not easy for a French to understand)
2) Are you aware of that ''special grease?
3) What do you advise me to do? heating all the caliper?
4) Any idea where i can have a ''cheap'' copy (PDF or not) of the service manual of the Silverwing? I beleive in terms of mecanics it is the same as the SWT and not need to look out for months for the SWT one in English..
Thanks for your help

| Bonjour Badaboum. Bonne chance. |

| Hello
Thanks for the reply (we keep up writing in English or switch to French?)
What does the Silverwing manuals says about this Allen Wrench? 5 or 5.5 ? Does the manual says anything about locklite or the Honda mechanics was wrong?
Thanks for your help

| The bolts holding the caliper on my SWing are 8mm x 1.25pitch. The manual says to replace (hence I have a nice new one to measure) but my techy said to just top up the threadlock. I can't help with the parking brake as I haven't a spare for that and it's a bit parky in the garage for grovelling on the concrete ! |

| The brake pad pin on my 2003 FSC600 here in the US is 5mm, and we do use a high temperature grease on those pins (and the thread) so that the brake pads slide easier and so that the threads do not seize in the caliper body.
I'd clean that area then remove the rubber plug and try the 5.5MM hex tool. If that doesn't fit easily then drop down to a 5MM.
Once you determine which is the correct tool size you could cut off a small piece of that tool, insert it in the pin then use a small hammer to hit the tool end as you are turning the tool with a wrench --kind of like an impact tool. HTH

| I have just replaced the Parking brake pads, i didn't have any trouble taking the pad pins out. I have also replaced the rear brake pads in the last year , again i had no problems taking the bolts or the pins out. I have the A7 now, six year old Silverwing. Possibly your model is different but , i wouldn't have thought so. |

| I apologise for the posting in French. I think that the other members have given more valuable technical information. All I said was that I have never encountered a 5.5 Allen key in Canada. Rust is probably the cause of the stuck pin, and penetrating oil or WD 40 and heat would probably loosen it. An extraction would probably be a last resort, requiring a new bolt. |

I think the French version was much more fascinating. I didn't understand a word of it, but it sparked my imagination. |

| Bigbird, my apologies. I sit corrected, and will look for the 5.5 mm Hex key. May come in handy sometimes. Thanks. |

| Lalee, are you, or were you "Larry from Seattle"? Your posts and replies remind me very much of him, and he rode a Goldwing. |

You're right. That is him! Look at his avatar. I wonder if he'll start trolling on me again. I hope not. |

| Why not answer the question Larry, all larryfromseatle's photos are still here for anyone to view and your avatar photo riding the Gold Wing with the red Coleman cooler box on the back is taken from there. In fact the same red cooler box is on the photo you've just posted above. Happy Thanksgiving. |

| Admin hat on.
For the record, all indications (including some that members can't see) suggest that Larry and lalee are one and the same.
I believe that there has been "friction" in the past. That pre-dates me, so I will judge only what I read from now on. If I see any "trouble" brewing, I will step on it.
Admin hat off .... Back to the topic. |

| Well none of this has anything to do with the OP, and I apologize to all who have no interest in who I am and only interested in the original conversation.
My intro has been updated.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. |
