| Well late is better than never.
Hi my name is Steve and I have been lurking and reading since last spring. At that time I was riding my Kawasaki Nomad but it has gotten too heavy for me. I wanted a lighter and easier cycle. After checking things out I decided on a scooter, now which one? Thanks to a lot of you I did settle on the Silver Wing. My Nomad didn't sale until Sept and I found a 2009 Swing, 30K miles that was owned by a friend of mind who had traded it in to a Dealership (non-Honda) and they had not sold it in the 9 months, so I was able to get a good deal for me. I have only put about 500 mile on it but am becoming a fan of the Swing. It is a lot different that riding a big road bike, My feet had the hardest time learning to just sit there and do nothing. I am not a big posting but am an avid reader of the forum. I made contact with redeye about his used rear wing and believe we have a deal. So you can see that following this site=good things. I wanted to make my first post to be in the Introduction topic so I will not get jumped on by Meldrew :lol!: I look forward to following along and will post from time to time.

| SteveO, welcome to the site. You did what I did before I even started riding in the two-wheel world, searched out all I could find on all the available SWing and other Maxi sites. Musta' read all the items I could find for a year or more before finally taking the plunge. Still, as "model28a" says, this site is where it's really happening for the Silver Wing. Oh yeah... there are 'others' (besides Meldrew) on here that appreciate your starting out with a courteous introduction. Thanks, and Welcome once again !! |

| Welcome from Seattle. I had an 05 Nomad 1600. First year of the fuel injection. Mine was silver and black. I liked it but I only got 30 miles per gallon and you had to burn premium at that. I really like my Silverwing and I think you will too.

| What's all this 'jumped on by Meldrew' nonsense, if lurkers, newbies, and the ”I'm thinking of buying a Silver Wing but I might buy a Burgman” types, actually read what it says at the top of the Home Page and made an Intro post before they jumped in for free fault advice, or basic scooter operations like starting, or for info that's already there in the Owner's Manual if they bothered to read it, or make any effort in downloading one off the internet if they don't have one, then old git's like me wouldn't think who is this guy? Then I wouldn't need to remind them, or be 'rude' or whatever. Anyway a lot of these guys don't stay the course, they think they're being victimised and disappear after a couple of posts, usually after they've got the info they want. Now if you'll excuse me I've got a pot of sourdough to feed. |

| Welcome to the forum. I too noticed an adjustment after first getting the SW but now I really like it! My "old" brain is whirling, the SW is all automatic, my Trail 90's have auto-clutch but need to be shifted and my GW has a clutch and shifter. Now Glenn, remember which one you are on... |

| I love you, Meldrew! You are just a refreshingly honest kinda guy. Any group I've ever belonged to, whether on the internet, or in "real life", there's the folks who drop in and drop out. Sometimes with much drama. I do think not everyone is used to the conventions of courtesy practiced on this site - many places it's a real jungle, and little or no courtesy is practiced. Some people can be almost absurd, I try to just laugh and get on. One of my pet theories of life is that in any group - large or small - there are approximately 15 % that are - well, jerks. That still leaves 85% who are wonderful, decent sorts - it's just sometimes the 15% really stick out. And on the internet, people are often not at their best - they feel as if it gives them a license to do and say whatever, with no consequences or accountability. My particular issue can be the "whiners", whatever it is they whine about. That said, I think a lot of people do lurk here, they don't feel qualified to jump on and say much, when there are folks here who obviously know so much, and have all kinds of experience. So they lurk, and then by the time they feel ready to contribute, they feel as if they are old-timers, not first-timers. Here in the U.S. (at least in my experience) scooters are not well known, and do not get a lot of respect. I think it is much better in Europe, and other parts of the world. I think many folks who are thinking of a scooter have gotten a lot of negativity - it doesn't make you feel very confident. I always say I am going to hurt the next person who asks me when I am going to get a "REAL MOTORCYCLE". But I never do. Most of these people know nothing about it. But when you get that constantly, it can work on you after a while. So some people lurk, some whine, some posture. Eventually you realize that you're so content and happy with your SiverWing that it doesn't matter what others think anyway. But it took me a while to get there. Maybe if I had known about this site back then, it would have been a lot sooner!

I agree with you, I am getting some of the same questions but I just remind them that since 1960 I have covered the cycle from my 1st (Harley 74 ci flatheat & hand shift/foot cluch) to Honda's BMW etc all of them LARGE (Goldwing, 1000 cc Airhead, full fairing bags & loaded) to 5HP Cushman. Now I am ready for just fun cycle that will be kind to an old man (70 next month).
PS I have enjoyed reading Meldrew's post and agree with most, but he seemed to be the kind you could pick on but just be ready for the come back.
This is my kind of forum
SteveO.
