| I know I made a mistake identifying the side-rack but there was a Givi one and there isn't a Fehlings one for our Silverwings.
To protect paint from soft saddlebags I use non-slip mesh/mat which I buy from Amazon - Oxford Products:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oxford-Blanket-Multi-Purpose-Anti-Slip-Mat/dp/B002HMX7QI/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405590627&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=oxprod+non-slip+mat
In Belgium, the supermarket near us sold non-slip tray mats - same material - and I bought some of those, too. I cut slots in the mat through which I threaded the straps, a semi-permanent fixing. |

I cut slots in the mat through which I threaded the straps, a semi-permanent fixing. I've already done that with my hi-vis Cameron bags, It's an easier way of doing it than sticking them. A few years ago I cut pieces of the same material to stick on the back of my Givi T421 bags which I bought to fit on my 650 Burgman. Initially it was a bit of a faff to get the matting to stick to the bags but it works very well protecting the paintwork. |

Think about how big the area is that you want to protect. Perhaps it is the size of an ipad? Maybe an ipad screen protector will work. depending on the adhesive? I dunno what adhesive is used for those protectors. Other sources below. What you are looking for are products like these: http://www.amazon.com/Amico-Vehicle-Handle-Scratch-Protector/dp/B006U60RCE http://www.surfaceguard.com/marketsandapplications/automotive.html http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3M-Automotive/Aftermarket/Our-Brands/Scotchgard-Pro-Series/ http://www.clearguardusa.com/clearguard-paint-protection-film-by-3m/ Now that you've got the idea of what I am talking about, you'll have to search further for the size you want to use, and price. | I had quite a problem with the Bestem T-Box as mounted on my Xciting 500. I did 2 reviews on Amazon regarding the overly flimsy mounting base (added below). Due to my initial review, Amazon gave me a full refund, I then used to buy A Shad trunk. The Shad gave me no issues. As the Silver Wing has a very rigid rack to mount upon, there may be no with a Bestem in this case, but I don't trust them.
I have had many, many trunks of the top brands and some of the cheap junk too. The Bestem trunk is well made, not a Givi or Shad, but still quite good. The letdown is the crappy stamped steel base plate. The base plate needs complete support underneath and the mounting hole/slots are too close together. Consequently, if the plate is on a mount kit or rack that does not provide complete, solid support underneath, it will likely vibrate and rattle. I will end up building supports for the base plate to make it work.
If you own a bike/scoot with a large supportive rack surface, like a KLR650 or Silver Wing 600, this would be good choice for the price. But mounting on bikes or scoots that rely on the rigidity of the trunk base plate may end in rattles, vibration and damage to the trunk to base locking system.
(Later posted update) WHAT A NIGHTMARE! You can read my original post (above) from when I purchased this trunk. To update, after a couple of hundred miles the trunk mounting malfunctioned and it fell off. I discovered this when a truck pulled up to me at an intersection and the driver told me he had to swerve to avoid the box falling off my bike, about 10 miles back. Though I looked twice along the section of road, the trunk was never found and likely someone picked it up or it was hit and destroyed. I lost about $30 worth of stuff stored in the trunk and was lucky I did not have my iPad inside, or worse, the driver crashed.
The issue is with the system that locks the trunk onto the base plate. The latch of the lock is too thin/malleable and deforms from road surface bumps. The base plate is very flexible and thus compounds the issue. This is very sad as the trunk was good looking. I have never had this issue on GIVI or SHAD trunks of which I have had many. I learned my lesson, go with the good and proven stuff.

| I had the 929 on my previous Swing and will be getting another one for my current Swing. I never had any issues with it staying securely on the bike. Perhaps that's due to the larger surface area we have to mount the plate onto. |
