I posted a Pictorial in the "Pictorial" section on how to remove the belt and variator. Just look it up and follow the instructions and when the belt is off you can just clean it out.

I use brake cleaner to remove any belt dust or road grime that has collected inside the ramp plate and on the sheaves. The belt itself should never be cleaned with anything. The enemy of the CVT belt drive is slippage, caused by any form of lubrication.

A friend drove his Silverwing over a flooded road. The water came half way up the belt housing. Afterwards, his engine revved to 8k rpm as he was doing only 50 km/hr. After 10 minutes of this, the belt gradually dried off and it regained its non-slip ability.
