| hello to all .... i am a lifetime bike rider who is getting a little long in the tooth for my 1100 shadow and have just acquired a 2005 silverwing as my new ride ... got this machine from the estate of a long time friend who has passed ... it has about 17k on it and appears to be in good external condition but it has been sitting up for a couple of years .... i put a new battery in and the starter works but it won't light off .... even after draining the tank and adding new fuel ... am anxious to get it on the road before the snow flies and would welcome any and all suggestions to make that happen .... thanks
later .... piper |

| Hi and Welcome!
Ditto on the plugs and air filter. Others may know of some other basic checks that could cause turn-over but no start.
I have read here somewhere that the Fuel Pressure Regulator (I think) can be suspect on an older machine that has sat for a good while. Something about a pinhole leak developing; you might search the site for this. I have not experienced this; mine is 2004 but the previous owner did not let sit and neither do I.
Good luck and happy riding!

| As a quick addition to GaryM's post which is right on, pull the plugs, if they are wet and fouled, good chance it's the fuel pressure regulator. Easy and inexpensive job to fix yourself. Just search it on here. There are many threads on how to do it. |

| Welcome, Piper. I am another of those long-in-the-tooth riders, but I went the other way and acquired an 1100 Tourer !! I like it so far. There are plenty of knowledgeable riders on this forum to help you get going. |

| Welcome and the old question, is the red engine-disable switch on. Also - can't remember, can the SWing be started with the kick stand extended? |

Not unless the lockout has been disabled. |
