| Subject: Malossi Variator? Sun Apr 12, 2015 9:24 pm | |
| Hey Everyone:
Still on the hunt for my SW. Have taken some time following Craigs List and seeing what's out there. Have been talking with an individual who has a 2002 SW with 24,000 miles. CVT Belt and Pulley Weights were changed at 20,000 miles. Good tread on the tires. He mentioned that it had a Malossi Variator.
Did a little reading on it on here and the internet. Seems to smooth out initial take off? Is that correct?
Also has a couple of scrapes on it where he went down while on the Dragon.
Just trying to find out the pluses of this variator over the stock one.
Thanks

| The Malossi is a good variator and I had one on my Majesty and it did great. I'm not sure if you can install sliders on the Malossi or just use rollers. It is low miles that is for sure. Does the person still have the stock variator? When I had the Majesty the Malossi was about the only variator mod available and it did give me better acceleration and did make it smoother. But it doesn't give a whole lot of more performance unless he has lighter weights. You might be better off with the stock variator and getting some 24gr Dr Pulley sliders, unless the Malossi can use the Dr Pulley sliders. But the Malossi is a step up from the stock variator IMO. Good luck and tell us what you do.
Oh, and welcome to the site. |

| I did tests with a malossi variator on my wing on a dyno. No appreciable performance improvements on a direct swap. Rumor has it that Malossi may have been subcontractor from Honda for original variator. Weight changes may improve some performance. Nothing wrong with having one, but don't pay extra for it.
