just got a few weeks ago. Starting maintenance today

Went for an eighty mile ride to northern Oahu.  It was a very nice day. Temps were in the mid 80's. Took some pictures below.

I already have a 1" ball mount on the brake fluid reservoir, so I'm wondering what kind of clamp can I attach to that to hold a phone or GPS.

You need a RAM Arm, they come in three sizes S (2"), M (4"), and L (6"). Then you need some type of cradle with a RAM ball fitted to mount it to the ball mount on the brake fluid reservoir using the RAM arm.

I found out on a touring trip to Germany a few years ago that the brake fluid reservoir RAM ball mount isn't really ideal if you have quite a heavy Garmin sat nav/GPS held in a locking cradle with a long RAM arm with a locking clamp.

The four fine threaded screws securing the brake fluid reservoir cover can't really take all the extra weight hanging off it and continually work themselves loose. Which is something you don't need distracting you out on the road, forcing you to find somewhere to stop and tighten them.

I got round the problem with zip ties and electrical tape, and once back home I took the reservoir RAM mount off and went back to mounting my sat nav centrally between the handlebars.

I use this set up now on my Forza, a RAM ball is permanently mounted there, and when not being used it's invisible as it has a removable Honda branded cover over it. This set up works even better than the DennisB mount I had on my Silver Wing.

Excellent point. I'm taking the ball mount off and putting the original reservoir cover back on tomorrow.

Is there any way to mount a cross bar (or central bar) without poking holes on the handle bar cover?

Search "mount" 4th post post down. The Bern made a mighty fine ram ball mount for his SW. . Follow the rest of post and its not hard to make something similar without any tooling needed. A few bolts, washers and a bar to mount Ram ball.

Any kind of cross bar would need some trimming of bar covers. If done right 2 clamps and bar would be easy enough. Would it be in the way of ignition or gauges is my only issue. ??

Posted this before North Woods of Pennsylvania.

This photo was taken after I'd just completed a midday ride up and down the the Kyffhäuser road in on a very hot day, and stopped at a bikers cafe for a bowl of Gulaschsuppe. I took a photo of the bowl of goulash soup too.
