Hi, I'm new to this site but have come here many times for info on maintaining my SW. I currently ride a 2010 SW, but started on on a 250cc KimCo scooter and found that I required more horse power. Went to a 2008 SW and loved it. I put about 24000 miles on it and found a good deal on a later version with only 1000. So here I am with 12000 on my 2010 SW now. Working on it this weekend and decided to join so I could watch some pictorials on your site. Not too many modifications on this bike but always looking to upgrade. Got a Honda top box on this SW but on the 08 SW had a Givi Top box and liked it better. Got a RAM phone holder on the handel bars and it works great when using the phone as GPS or recording a ride. Tested out Dr Pulley slider weights on the 2008 and liked them. I figured I will try them on this scooter when it comes time to change the drive belt(16000 miles). This weekend I plan to change the final drive oil and brake fluid. Rides: I have ridden on the Tail of the Dragon in TN(318 curves in 11 miles) and the Cherohala/dragon loop in TN and NC with the 2010 SW. Living in Louisville, KY most of my riding is in KY, IN, OH, and TN. One of these days I may even try to become a member of the Iron Butts club and ride 1000 miles in 24 hours, but not yet.

The problem with the Iron Butt Ride is that the part that does the thinking ain't the part that does the sitting. That's only too true for anyone, as you get a bit older. I continuously keep making plans and attempt to do things I did 40 years ago; but the body does not always comply with all the wishful thinking. But at the same time I have to admit that getting back on two wheels has been the best thing i have done for many years. You can't turn back the wheel of time, but you can make the best of what is left. |

oldwingguy wrote: Amen to both of those posts, heck even a 15 year > turn back < would be nice for the body. I just turned 69 in July. I know about old bodies... That being said, my Wife and I took two trips from MN to FL on my motorcycles back when we were still young and healthy enough to enjoy the trips. We both enjoyed the heck out of them. By the second trip her health was starting to go down hill and she was a bit sore when we got back. We knew that was the last long trip for us. She loved riding on the back with me and I miss both her and that a lot. As far as Iron Butt, or any other long ride badge, I'm not interested. I enjoy riding my SWing and 1974 Honda CB 750. Anymore, a 300-400 mile day run is tiring enough without trying for 1000 miles. One slight edit: The two trips we took to FL weren't done in one day either. We'd ride during the day and find a motel in the evening. We'd leave when we woke up and stop to see whatever sights we came across that caught our eye. We'd stop when we needed gas or food and just took our time getting down there and getting back. No Rush. No Worries. Just enjoy each other and the trip.

Thanks for the info and welcomes. Oldgwingguy: In Ohio I have only ridden in the southwest end and usually through the Cincinatti area and west along the Ohio river into Indiana. I see that NWSSC or Howard is going to WV with some guys in a couple of weeks. I was planning on doing some white water rafting on the Gauley in WV in the next week or so and considered taking the SW, but after 23 miles on the river and all those level 5 rapids I'm not sure I want to be riding a scooter all the way back. I think it would be loads of fun. As for the Iron Butt badge, It was just a thought. Still in the back of my head but I think it would require I get a cruise control.

All is well and welcome to the site. Swinging is good, it does keep a person feeling young....er. I would say, dont wake up in a ditch 830 miles into an iron butt ride.
