| I have a chatter all the way to about 50 mph then it smoothes out. I have 24g sliders in the vario and a slipon muffler. When I was in the cvt I noticed a couple of grooves that looked like an oring slot on the rear clutch. Looked up in the service manual it is exactly that. so my question is could that cause a lot of chatter if those orings are not there.
Another problem is the tall windshield rattling alot has anybody found a fix for this yet. the rubber piece will not maintain shape could that be the cause. |

| Hello Mike.Like the previous S/W rider said,we need to have a little more information. First the groves you see are exactly what you said. Although rather particular they are to hold the inner race of the bearing in the left outer cover.I doubt if they are the cause of your concern. Off hand your chatter is probably more of a harmonic vibration caused by some plastic in the front end or something in the exhaust system. About your wind screen, did it come with extra brackets? I would tell my(customers) patients, tell me as much of the systems as you can and I will try and do the diagnosing.Let us know what you find so we can all learn from your experiences. Thank you. Howard |

| Chasing sounds, lordy what an adventure, right up there with electrical problems when aftermarket items have been added. That said what one gent told me and what appeared to be a noise up in the dash area was actually a loose front fender mounting bracket. I would look for loose items first, maybe a bolt / screw / tap that would do it's thing in one area but sound from another. MOST IMPORTANT is when you find it tell us |

| Slipon muffler with a loose bolt / shield, perhaps internally a loose baffle? Try thumping the muffle good to see if you can hear anything loose. One other thing was this something that started out slowly then got worse or was it a sudden happening? |

| A friend's bike had a rattle from the rear end that turned out to be that wire guard around the bottom of the muffler cover that was bent a bit and rattling against the cover. |

| Rear clutch-----45,000 miles, worn out?, non stock parts? My suggestion put drive train back together with stock parts including rollers in front, belt how old? After near 400,000 miles on these rubber band drive scooters experience----the drive lines do wear out, grooves in pulley, etc. They do function well with stock parts/fresh OEM belts, etc
Givi windshield installed correctly?, all well nut there? check |

| One way to isolate rattling body panels, windshield rattles and such is to use some masking tape to cover joints. In this case tape along the crack between the windshield and the front cover, tape along the sides of the front cover. I use 2" wide masking tape for that kind of work. Tape every thing in the areas of the rattle, test ride and remove the tape a bit at a time until the rattle comes back. |
