| in europe it might be a gilera nexus but we don't have Gileras in Australia so it's a Aprilia Sr Max300. And it's awesome to ride as well |

| I believe you are both right, this Aprilia scooter was sold as a Gilera even in Oz until some years ago. After Piaggio shut down the Gilera factory they kept selling their line of scooters under the Gilera name for a while and then made them part of the Piaggio or Aprilia product line. For example the 3 wheeler Fuoco became the Piaggio MP3. I had a Sr Max300 for a while, but it was too motorbike like for me and like all Piaggio products they have a poor power to weight ratio. (22.5hp/168kg) At least the Gilera Nexus 500 had an output of 40hp/216kg; but the Piaggio 500 single cylinder engine is a bit of a let down compared to the Honda twin cylinder. I am currently riding an Aprilia Scarabeo 500, which has the same drive train. On paper is has a better power to weight ratio than a Silverwing, but in real life the Honda leaves it for dead. It will get up to 160km/h, but don't try to challenge motorbikes when the lights turn green. |
