Opened last week, the new road has changed traffic conditions in Lancaster and Morecambe considerably.
Here's the first YouTube video riding my Silver Wing and a run along the new road.

Why do you guys always drive on the wrong side of the road?
Sorry, I couldn't help myself...
Thanks for the video. It was nice!

I hope this means less traffic in Lancaster, it is a real pain getting through the centre of town , coming from the east side to get to the coast (Glasson Dock )you have no alternative route. They have been working on the Motorway junction for over a year.

If you're coming from the east, there's some good roads through the Trough of Bowland/Quernmore that can take you to Glasson without touching Lancaster town centre.
I confess to not having been through Lancaster town centre since the new road opened, but I'd be surprised if it is anything like as bad as it was. From the south, a lot of private traffic would come off the motorway before Lancaster and go through the centre to get to Morecambe and Heysham. Now they have a faster alternative by going around to the north of Lancaster and the new link road.
Of course, we still suffer from the usual school run problems, but I looked at one road in the "rush" hour and found only 5% of the traffic that used to be there - and it was flowing freely.
Work started in 2014, so more like two years in the making. The first phase of the plan was completed in 1994 - a bypass from Morecambe to Heysham... then nothing!
Plans were put forward for a major link road as far back as 1948!

I can't remember the last time I was in Lancaster, probably when they started covering Lancashire with speed cameras seemingly at every other lamp post. I used to ride down over the fell roads from West Cumbria, mainly because I'd bought a MZ ETZ 250 from Roger Wilson Motorcycles in Thurnam Street. That was way back when Wilf Green Ltd in Sheffield was the MZ importer. Even then the city centre was always congested with traffic, Vin Duckett was another old style bike dealer in the city centre.

Thurnam street's still there, but Roger Wilson motorcycles is long gone. I vaguely remember the name but think the premises has also gone.
I think the centre of Lancaster will always be congested to a certain degree but I hope the new road will really make a difference to it and the area as a whole.
Morecambe to my dentist in Garstang took less than 25 mins. the other day - previously, I would've allowed one and a half hours at least!

Nice video. I used to visit my friend in Lytham all the way from London in my old Mini Cooper in the late 70's. Way more traffic than them old days !!! Brings good memories. Thanks. Jay.
