| I took a look- I think I will take a look at my own SW this summer.
To prevent this if mine would be still fine I will coat it with paint.
Besides this I like your yellow stripes. |

| Wouldn't a liberal spritzing with ACF-50 have prevented, or at least significantly delayed, that rust & corrosion?
I'm always amazed to hear of the significant corrosion on UK scoots. Dunno whether to attribute that to your close proximity to the salty air or to road treatment. But with all those corrosion issues, your highway department (perhaps The Ministry of Acid Dispersal) must be treating your roads with some really toxic stuff.

| Hi, Cosmic-jumper/ Yes acf-50 would of delayed the corrosion.but i have had this scooter for only 15 months and only covered jus over 3,000 mile, and i had sprayed it with wd-4o. I did not ride it for the previus owners 17,000 plus miles .so the corrosion is down to the previus owners lack of care. And yes the council do spread nasty salt on our roads over the winter months. Safe riding. Mars/uk. |

| WD40 useless for protection, better to use ACF 50 or even better Waxoyl for under body parts. Lots of washing helps get rid of winter salt and a leaf blower makes a good dryer ! |

| WD40 if left on a surface starts attracting moisture which it holds as a moist mush and corrodes things really badly especially if in damp conditions and even more so if there is salt present too. I won't use it on vehicles here in the UK! It is great on plastics and for getting sticky gunk off though.

Good point. But then what is your solution to protection from the corrosive effects of road treatment? |

| I've been using this http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p41925?searchstr=wax%20spray on my SWing and other bits of machinery. Seems to do a good job for the price. Not sure if it's available across the pond though. Den |

Den Closest stuff I can locate here is this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-CAN-COSMOLINE-Weathershed-Heavy-Wax-Protection-for-Bare-Metal-in-12-oz-/121956606426?hash=item1c652e21da:g:lJUAAOSwofxUcmmX&item=121956606426&vxp=mtr However it's cosmoline which is notoriously difficult to remove. Tim |

In contrast I'm currently in a freezing cold New York City for the first time and I'm amazed at the amount of grey white crap coating all the cars driving through the dirty snow and slush on the roads. It's far worse than anything that mucks up our traffic in winter. Usually it's usually just the bottom half of the vehicles bodywork that gets covered in black road grime. Wandering around today all the cars, vans, Police vehicles etc, looked as if they'd been dipped in something, this dried on soup is plastered on the roof, windscreen, lights, and it looks awful. How corrosive this stuff is I've no idea. |

| It's corrosive, rock salt crystals spread for snow and ice or brine for pre treatment nothing good for metal that's for sure. |

Now just why would a reasonably intelligent Brit choose to travel several thousand miles to suffer the misery of a freezing NYC January when he could be basking in the warmth of Florida? |

| This reasonably intelligent Brit chose to travel to travel several thousand miles to suffer the misery of a freezing NYC January because of that wise old saying "Happy wife, happy life". We're spending three nights here before flying down to the US equivalent of Yorkshire, the Lone Star State of Texas. Anyway the cold is better than somewhere that has the double whammy of humidity, and grits! Hopefully it'll be a bit warmer in Texas. |

Hopefully it'll be a bit warmer in Texas. A smart man keeps the wife happy. Next couple of days in the Dallas areas are predicted to be 70 to 80, then it drops off a bit and rain next weekend. Enjoy your visit, we're happy to have ya'll. |

| Mrs M and myself have been in the Texas Hill Country for almost a week now. Before that we were in Dallas for a couple of nights, we went to the Texas School Book Depository, Mrs M visited the George W. Bush Library, and I had a wander round Deep Ellum.
So since then we've been to Lake Travis, Wimberley, San Marcos, Fredericksburg, where we visited the Pacific War Museum, and the local brewery. Then San Antonio, the Alamo, Groene, Luckenbach, a wet and dreary Austin yesterday for the State Capitol, and the LBJ Library and Museum.
We've eaten kolaches, sloppy joes, sliders, had our first Texas BBQ at the Salt Lick, and tasted quite a few Texan beers. In fact we've off to Lockhart today for more BBQ, I'd like to try the short beef rib at Black's.
Y'all have a good day now.

| Thank you, it's our last night in Texas tonight as we're going down from Houston to Galveston tomorrow to join a cruise ship. We came down today via Le Grange where I added to my Texan CV by having my first chicken fried steak in Hank's Express diner, I ate okra for the first time too. We've really enjoyed Texas and found Texan people great. Apart from doing the usual scenic, cultural, and tourist things, I've surprisingly liked the simple pleasures of browsing round places like an Ace Hardware Store, and those fine emporiums of all thing's Texan, Bucc-ee's. |
