PostSubject: Hyperpro fork springs   Hyperpro fork springs I_icon_minitimeSat May 01, 2010 12:18 pm

I installed the springs yesterday. I put about 100 miles on them by the time the rains came.
Impressions:
I love them. On the local streets that are cratered and frost heaved, I no longer bottom out and have a lot less front end clanking and squeeking. Plus my back doesn't hurt (collapsed discs, arthritis).
The steering is much more precise, like a sport tourer, no more wallowing in the corners.
I used the 20w fork oil sent with the springs and it seems perfect for my weight.
The scooter seems to be more level while riding. and when I sit on it with the kickstand down, it doesn't sag to the point of feeling like it will tip over. I don't slide forward on the seat as much.
I am glad I found this tip on the forum. Good product.

Now if it stops raining, I'm out for more riding.

I have not replaced the seals on the Swing but here are some good sources. that said, Be sure to have new seals in hand before starting. Some shops may not have them in stock and you don't want to have the scoot down for a long time waiting.

1. take off brake cylinder hang out of the way.
2. remove the front fender and reflectors.
3. Loosen the 2 top bolts on the tree on each side.
4. remove axle and then remove wheel

now you are left with just the 2 forks

5. remove the 2 bolts and slide the fork out.

follow the instructions on this page

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/howto/replace_fork_seals/index.html

they are pretty good.
Note:
Using an impact wrench on the damping cartridge retaining nut helps a lot.

reassemble the front end.

look up a parts fiche to familiurize (sp) yourself with the parts in the fork. Here is an example:
http://hondaparts-direct.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=144693&category=SCOOTERS&make=HONDA&year=2005&fveh=3417

OK that said: I have in the past not disassembled the whole fork. After remvoal from bike.
Remove fork cap and remove spring and drain. colapse the slider into the bottom tube (make it shorter)
1. pop off dust cover
2. remove retaining clip
3. drill or punch a small hole using ice pick on each side of seal and insert a sheet metal screw then use pliers to remove the old seal. (be careful not to scratch the slider)
4.push new seal in place and use long plastic drain pipe to reseat the new seal.
5. put retaining clip back in and put dust boot back on.
6. check oil level in fork
7. reassemble front end on bike.
8. don't forget to retorque all the bolts to proper torque.

Keep the inner fork clean of bugs and grit. for a longer seal life. (I spray wax mine when i clean the front fender.

There may be something I left out, doing this from memory.
Hope this helps

Bob will be installing my Hyperpro Springs and changing the fork seals this weekend. I just have to pick up my fork seal kit at my Honda Dealer today. It came in yesterday. He will be using the tips on this forum like we have done with many other mods and maintenance issues on the Swing.

Thanks for all your help.
